CAVS will contribute to participating countries seeking to increase the mobility of their armies, including in Arctic conditions. (Patria)

The Finnish-led 6×6 Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) programme continues to progress, ג'ינס learnt at Defence IQ’s International Armoured Vehicles (IAV) 2023 conference being held in London from 23 to 26 January.

CAVS variants include armoured personnel carrier (APC), heavy APC (HAPC), engineer, logistic support, and command-and-control versions, with future possibilities including indirect fire vehicles armed with the Nemo 120 mm turreted mortar and medical evacuation vehicles.

Germany’s signing of a statement of intent to join the CAVS programme is aimed at a requirement to replace some of its Fuchs (Fox) vehicles and M113 tracked APCs such as the mortar carrier version.

Finland is expected to order CAVS vehicles by March. The Finnish Ministry of Defence and Patria signed a letter of intent for Finland to order 160 CAVS vehicles in 2023.

CAVS deliveries continue to Latvia, which signed a contract with Patria on 30 August 2021 for over 200 vehicles worth around EUR200 million (USD217.59 million), including support and training systems, for delivery by 2029.
