A pro CSGO team just had their secret strat book leaked, again

An outdated strat book made by Counter-Strike: Global Offensive titan BIG has been leaked online for fans to study.

The book is dated from April of 2019 and is filled with BIG’s intended strategies for the ESL Pro League Season 9 competition. A link to the document was accidentally leaked on captain Johannes “tabseN” Wodarz’s Twitch stream shortly before the event. The list includes several utility setups and retake procedures, as well as the exact teams each was designed to beat. The document has been taken down, but BIG’s coach Alexander “kakafu” Szymanczyk has given fans permission to enjoy copies of the information.

It’s very rare for CSGO teams to share their strategies, even after an event, and understandably so. Enemy teams would be able to pick apart plays and discover team’s weaknesses between events. This leak gives fans a rare look at the inner workings of a professional CSGO team. According to some social media users, the document was taken down shortly after being leaked by tabseN but was quietly put back up after Fatih “gob b” Dayik left the active roster in August 2019.

The strategies presented in the document are interesting. BIG had specific plans for most of the Pro League’s formidable competitors. For example, BIG planned to rush sites against Renegades but take sites slowly against Astralis.

It’s easy to recognize raw aim and good movement, but this document gives fans a glimpse at the mental side of CSGO.

Even with these strategies laid bare, BIG used several codes and secret phrases in their CSGO playbook. The document makes several references to setting up “Optic style” smokes and faking “like xseven.” Many player names are also written in quotation marks for plays, which could mean the role defaults to whoever is alive at the time. Only BIG knows for sure.

This strat book is already two years and multiple roster changes old, so it’s not a huge deal for competitors to get their eyes on it. If this were a more recent playbook, both the leaker and BIG would be in serious trouble. Former Heroic coach Nicolai “HUNDEN” Petersen is currently embroiled in a legal battle with his old organization after potentially leaking the squad’s current strategies to other teams. A CSGO strategy leak that actually gets approval from the coach is a refreshing change of pace.
