The President of Italia Trasporto Aereo (ITA), Alfredo Altavilla, publicly stated that he is not going to overpay for the Alitalia brand. Currently, the base price for the Alitalia brand has been set by the extraordinary commissioners of Alitalia at €290 million, an unrealistic figure according to the President of ITA.
This statement comes from the new Italian airline that was viewed as the preferred main candidate to take over the Alitalia brand and logo, a value that would not exceed €150 million, according to ITA’s top management.
However, Alitalia’s extraordinary commissioners responded by stating that the base value of €290 million was “the minimum value” from an appraisal conducted by the airline. The extraordinary commissioners of Alitalia added that this appraisal was required by law and was carried out by a third party appointed by the procedure and was subject to approval by the supervisory committee.
In other related news, a large number of former Alitalia workers involved in the air transport sector gathered around Fiumicino Airport in Rome to protest against climate inaction and uncertainty. While it is believed that this was a climate action protest, a number of others were protesting against the breakdown in contract negotiations between ITA and unions.
On Friday, hundreds of workers gathered outside Terminal 3 at Fiumicino Airport, accompanied by smoke bombs, trumpets, and even a simulation of a coffin accompanied with the inscription “Draghi such to Pontius Pilates.” There were also some clashes with the police when the demonstrators broke through the police cordon. Some of the Alitalia protesters also blocked traffic along the Rome-Fiumicino freeway to prevent access to the airport.
