During its CES 2023 keynote on Wednesday night, AMD CEO Lisa Su announced the company’s new Zen 4 3D V-Cache CPU lineup. The new CPU lineup includes three new processors: Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Ryzen 9 7900X3D, and Ryzen 9 7950X3D.

Launching in February, these new CPUs bring improvement to gaming and productivity over the company’s Zen 3 3D V-Cache CPU.

First up is the flagship Ryzen 9 7950X3D, the first 16-core 3D V-Cache processor. This CPU will have 32 threads, a 144 MB cache that features 64 MB CCD, 64 MB V-Cache + 16 MB L2 cache, and a TDP of just 120W. The chip features a base clock of 4.2 GHz and a boost speed of up to 5.7 GHz.

The 7900X3D is up next and is a 12-core, 24-thread processor. With a 120W TDP, this SKU has a 140 MB cache that includes a 64 MB CCD, 64 MB V-Cache + 12 MB L2 cache. The clock speed is rated at a 4.4 GHz base with a 5.6 GHz boost.

CPU ARCHITECTURE CORES / THREADS BASE CLOCK BOOST CLOCK CACHE TDP PRICES
AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D Zen 4 16/32 4.2 GHz 5.7 GHz 144 MB (64+16) 120W TBC
AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D Zen 4 12/24 4.4 GHz 5.6 GHz 140 MB (64+12) 120W TBC
AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D Zen 4 8/16 4.X GHz 5.0 GHz 104 MB (32+8) 120W TBC

Lastly is the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. With 8 cores and 16 threads, the base clock of the 7700X3D sits around 4 GHz with a boost clock of up to 5 GHz. Cache-wise, it includes 104 MB total which consists of a 32 MB CCD, 64 MB V-Cache + 8 MB L2 cache.

How will the AMD Zen 4 3D V-Cache CPU lineup perform?

When it comes to performance, not too much is known on a large-scale level. During its reveal, AMD claims that Ryzen 7 7800X3D sees up to a 30% improvement at 1080p gaming over the 5800X3D. Games like Rainbow Six Siege and Counter-Strike: Global Offense see a performance increase of 21% and 23%, respectively.

AMD has been working to cut into Intel’s market share for a while now. With the new Zen 4 3D V-Cache CPUs, it might just be what puts AMD over the top. That said, we’ll have to wait and see how the CPUs perform in heavier testing in order to get the full picture.

A specific date alongside final pricing for the new AMD CPU lineup will be announced in the coming weeks.
