Avelo Airlines announces highly anticipated East Coast flights

Source Node: 1865237

Since its launch back in April of this year at Burbank-Bob Hope Airport, Avelo Airlines has already expanded its route network along the west coast of the United States. Now one of North America’s newest ultra-low-cost airlines has unveiled new routes from its new East Coast hub in New Haven, Connecticut.

Avelo Airlines current fleet consists of three Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which are based at the airline’s hub at Burbank-Bob Hope Airport, near Los Angeles, California. From its base at Burbank, Avelo currently serves nine cities throughout the West Coast, in addition to inland destinations in Arizona and Nevada.

The first talk of a potential Avelo Airlines’ base on the east coast of the United States began in May 2021, when the airline’s founder Andrew Levy announced plans for a base at Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN) in Connecticut. At the time, the founder of Avelo Airlines stated that the airline was aiming to commence flight operations in the third quarter of 2021.

The airline finally revealed its exact plans for its New Haven hub on the 19th of August and plans to use the smaller Boeing 737-700 variant, rather than the larger 737-800 variant which is currently being used on Avelo Airlines’ West Coast routes. According to CEO and Chairman Andrew Levy, Avelo Airlines will begin connecting New Haven Airport to four new destinations in the holiday state of Florida from November 3rd.

The four routes will be to the popular holiday destinations of Orlando, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood, Tampa and Fort Myers. The route to Orlando is due to launch first with a one-off “ceremonial flight” on the 3rd of November, while the other three routes will be phased into the network by the 11th of November. In order to service the four new routes, Avelo will base three Boeing 737-700 aircraft at Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN), with each aircraft configured with 149 all-economy seats.

According to Avelo CEO and Chairman, Andrew Levy, the low-cost airline is responding to calls by Connecticut residents for convenient and more affordable flights to Florida. He also added that Avelo Airlines is “excited to bring low fares, more choice and the Avelo soul to Connecticut for the first time.”

The new routes also mark a huge expansion for Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN), its largest in over 30 years, with the airport currently only seeing a single scheduled route operated by American Eagle connecting New Haven with Philadelphia using Bombardier CRJ-700/900 series aircraft.
