Call of Duty: Warzone players are turning into zombies

Verdansk has finally been overrun with zombies. As of Thursday, contamination levels on the Call of Duty: Warzone map have reached 100%, and even players themselves aren’t safe from turning into the undead.

Now that the entire map has been affected, it seems certain areas where the zombies first arrived on Verdansk have become contaminated with nuclear radiation. If players enter these zones they start to take damage that will eventually kill them. But apparently, according to YouTuber Jackfrags, death isn’t the end if the radiation gets you. Instead, at least in team-based modes, players return to life as a zombie themselves.

In Raven Software’s latest in-universe briefing, there is a mention of specialized gas masks, which could be a new type of equipment that lets players safely — or more safely — explore these irradiated zones. On top of that, there’s a note about “critical safety measures,” along with a picture that appears to show zombies getting electrocuted, but it’s not clear what this means either.

For now these nuclear zones are only located at the Vodianoy ship wreck and the Prison, the first two areas on Verdansk that were infected by the undead. However, it seems like that the infection could quickly spread over the next week.

One thing we know for sure is that something big and bad is coming to Verdansk next week. In a tweet on Tuesday, Raven Software teased a massive — potentially nuclear — event that would strike the island on April 21. This massive event should mark the end of Warzone season 2, setting up for some huge changes when season 3 begins.
