You’re a few hours into Outriders, and you’re not sure the character class you’ve chosen is right for you. Can you change it? Here’s what you need to know.
When you start out playing Outriders, Square Enix’s brand new shooter-RPG, you’re given the choice of four character classes to choose between. There’s Technomancer, a magic-conjurer, a Pyromancer, a fire-based class, Devastator, a hard-hitting damage class, and Trickster, a fast-moving rogue-type class. You can choose any class you want but – here’s the thing – you’ll be stuck with whichever one you choose.
That’s right; there’s no way to change your class in Outriders once you’ve started playing. The character class you’ve chosen is the one you’ll play at through the game. If you want to choose a new class, you’ll need to start a new game.

If you don’t gel with the class you’ve chosen straight away, we’d recommend sticking it out a while. Every class can use every weapon type, so experiment with what weapons work best for you. Just because the Devastator is advertised as an up-close-and-personal class, that doesn’t mean you can’t use sniper weapons if you prefer them.
Each class also has a range of skills to choose from, with new ones unlocking as you level up by playing. Experiment with these – it’s likely you’ll enjoy some skills more than others.
So before giving up your hard work and starting over with a new character class, experiment. Get to know your character – each class has their own perks – and you’re likely to find something you’ll like about them. Good luck!
