Cr1t- Talks About the Ongoing EU vs NA Battle at the Singapore Major

Cr1t- put forward his opinion on the EU vs NA region battle that is ongoing at the first top-tier international LAN event in 14 months, the ONE Esports Singapore Major. In the post-match winners’ interview after Evil Geniuses’ (EG) 2-0 victory over Invictus Gaming at the tournament, Andreas Franck “Cr1t-” Nielsen, stated that while people thought EU was the top region coming into the tournament, the results now prove that it is not the case. Considering the performances of the NA and SA teams, the Danish player hopes that both these regions get a Major wild card slot. Since this interview was recorded before the Team Secret vs PSG.LGD series where the latter emerged as the winner, Cr1t- had also talked about which team out of the two he preferred to play in the upper bracket finals.

Cr1t- hopes that NA and SA get a Major wild card slot

Cr1t- sarcastically mentioned that one can gauge the current level of performance of EU teams by the fact that they were comparing themselves to NA. According to him, if EU were playing that good, they would be comparing themselves to China and not NA. 

Cr1t- then stated that both NA and SA deserved Major wild card slot although it did not mean snatching away these spots from the other regions.

“I think it’s pretty evident that China is strong and Secret is strong, it’s hard to say about other regions. I think NA did really well against SEA and the European teams in the group stage so yeah I hope NA gets a wild card slot. I think it deserved, SA probably as well. I don’t think any region deserves to get their wild card taken away from them but we’ll see what happens.”

Image Via LiquipediaCr1t- also stated that he preferred to play PSG.LGD in the upper bracket finals as EG has had a “good history” against Chinese teams. He also mentioned that though people believed Europe was the best region only because they had the best team, Team Secret.

“I hope we play LGD (in the upper bracket finals). We have a really good history against Chinese teams so I think if we play LGD, we have a better chance of getting to the finals than Secret. I would prefer to play just one series against Secret over two in the tournament. Yeah, it makes more sense for us to play LGD and then hopefully Secret in the grand finals. I think everybody is thinking that they are the team to beat here. Obviously, like, everybody thought Europe was the best region just because they are the best team, turns out that is not the case.”

Apart from Cr1t- , several Dota 2 personalities have put forward their opinions regarding the competition of the regions at the Singapore Major. EU has had a hard time since three of their top four teams – Team Nigma, Alliance and Team Liquid could not finish in the top-eight. 

On the other hand, underdogs like OB.Neon from SEA and Thunder Predator from SA have been showing some top-tier Dota 2.

Evil Geniuses has already secured a top-three finish in the Singapore Major and will be eying the grand finals spot when they play against PSG.LGD on April 3, 2021.
