Dutch Healthtech Startup And EU-Startups Summit 2022 Pitch Competition Finalist Autoscriber Secures €1.2 Million To Increase Impact

Born in Eindhoven, Autoscriber is aiming to create a positive impact in healthcare through tech. The startup, which was a finalist in last year’s EU-Startups Pitch Competition, has just secured fresh funding as demand for innovative healthtech solutions grows.

Healthcare is a fundamental part of everyday life. Across the world, though, healthcare systems are under pressure. Compounded with systemic issues and the aftermath of a global pandemic, healthcare systems are dealing with surmounting challenges – and it’s the growing vertical of healthtech that might be able to resolve the problems.

There’s currently a declining number of medical pressures as stress and pressure escalate. Together with ageing populations and the need to digitize processes and recordkeeping, this puts an enormous load on doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers all over the world. This is what Autoscriber aims to tackle and the startup has just secured new funding.

Founded in 2021, Autoscriber envisions a world where doctors can truly focus on patients by relieving them of their administrative burden. As healthcare systems struggle under pressure, there is potential in making healthcare more data-driven and automated. The challenge is that data-driven approaches to patient care (e.g. diagnostic support, analytics, precision medicine) require a lot of data on the patient and thus very complete patient files or Electronic Health Records (EHRs).

Koen Bonenkamp, co-Founder of Autoscriber: “In practice, we see that medical practitioners don’t have the time to fill out EHRs the way they are designed. Many valuable insights to improve healthcare get lost because data is captured in a suboptimal format or not captured at all.”

Autoscriber uses AI-powered speech recognition tech to extract structured clinical data from conversations between patients and physicians and acts as a digital scribe for the doctor. The Autoscriber “Flow” product allows medical practitioners to record the conversation using their mobile phones and to receive real-time suggestions to fill out the EHR. The solution saves time, captures more data and improves the consultation experience for doctor and patient, as there is more room for human connection.

Now, with this funding, the healthtech innovators plan to grow the team and expand product development. We’re excited to see what’s to come from this team and will be keeping a close eye. Jaqueline Kazmaier: “Our pre-seed phase was our ‘build & learn phase’; this investment will fund our ‘validate & optimize phase’ and in the following round we will focus on scale. We have reached the point where we have proven that the problem is real and that what we are building can offer a solution. There is clearly a huge need in the market and a willingness to make radical change – we struggle to keep up with requests for collaborations.”

Koen Bonenkamp: “To meet this demand, Autoscriber will use the new capital to grow the team. Our home base at the High Tech Campus and our development office in Cape Town give us access to a global talent pool. We’ll not only add more technical brainpower, but we’ve also made some exceptional operations and commercial hires in order to be ready for this exciting next phase.”
