Despite a massive price rally, a co-founder of Ethereum and early Bitcoin adopter reveals a surprise crypto exit and issues a dire warning.

Anthony Di Lorio, one of Ethereum’s eight co-founders, says he’s done with the cryptocurrency world.

First reported by Bloomberg, Di Lorio’s exit comes on the heels of a massive bitcoin, ethereum, and cryptocurrency price surge that has seen the combined crypto market balloon to well over $1 trillion.

The reluctant billionaire

Named by Forbes as “a borderline billionaire” in 2018, Di Iorio says he doesn’t “feel necessarily safe in this space” and warned, “a lot of times cryptocurrency is not… what the world needs.” He helped kickstart the development of Ethereum in 2013 as the project’s financier.

Di Lorio told Bloomberg that he wants “to diversify to not being a crypto guy, but being a guy tackling complex problems. I will incorporate crypto when needed, but a lot of times, it’s not.”

Since 2017, Di Lorio has had a security team who always accompanies him wherever he goes. And bidding adios from the crypto world is a result of what he says was “a good 20%” worry over his safety.

At the crosshairs

Cryptocurrency users have been promised the ability to “be your bank”. As prices of crypto skyrocket, early adopters have become extremely wealthy. And because of this, they’ve also become easy targets by the bad guys.

The relative anonymity of bitcoin and crypto, in general, makes it a struggle for law enforcement to track down suspicious transactions and get back money that was stolen.

Di Lorio is said to be involved in a zero-emission vehicle company and is collaborating with Paraguay Congressman and bitcoin enthusiast Carlos Rajala.

There are reports that Di Iorio plans to sell his “hundreds of millions” worth of company called Decentral, a Toronto-headquartered innovation hub and software developer, in the coming year to establish a charity foundation.

Di Lorio obviously had other plans and ruled out disposing of the company.
