G2 Esports demolishes Evil Geniuses – League of Legends World Championship

North American League of Legends fans woke up to a harsh reality on day 2 of the League of Legends World Championship. Things are getting a little tough for LCS fans, as G2 Esports followed Europe’s dominance over North America with a quick victory over the LCS Spring champions, Evil Geniuses.

Evil Geniuses were coming off a rough game loss to tournament favorites and LPL’s first seed, JD Gaming. They managed to fight toe to toe with the LPL juggernauts in the early game, but were eventually ran over by JD Gaming’s deathball team fight composition in the late game. As a whole, NA teams failed to grab a win on day one of Worlds, with Cloud 9 losing against Fnatic and 100 Thieves dropping their game versus the PCS 1st seed, CFO Flying Oysters.

Is important to keep in mind that G2 Esports also struggled on day 1 with a loss against LCK’s DWG KIA, but on day 2 they woke up on the right foot and grabbed a 27 minute victory. From the pick and ban strategy right to the victory screen, the ex “Kings of Europe” showed their synergy at the Hulu Theater in New York for all fans to watch, especially Caps’ dad who flew to North America in order to support his son on the biggest stage.

One easily seen weakness that Evil Geniuses’ team composition had was a lack of backline access and engagement tools. The team’s MVP jungler Inspired was given Nidalee, which is a champion he has only played once this year during the 2022 Spring Playoffs. He normally prefers the active playmaking playstyle with picks such as Wukong, Viego, Lee Sin, and Sejuani, so he can be the proactive tool for Evil Geniuses in all game stages.

Throughout the almost 30 minutes of game time, Inspired only achieved two assists, a single death, and no kills at all. His champion pick was definitely something that held him back, and his poke was non-existent due to the nature of G2 Esports’ tanky picks like Sejuani, Rell, and Sylas. Even though Impact’s Maokai could dish out his ultimate, there was barely any follow up damage coming from the Evil Geniuses’ composition.

Evil Geniuses will have a day to prepare before facing off against ShowMaker, Canyon, Nuguri, and the rest of LCK’s juggernauts third seed, DWG KIA. With currently two losses on their scoreline, the North American representatives will most likely need to play perfectly on their next game set to start on Friday, October 14th, when they battle to continue for a place and possible contention of the coveted Summoners’ Cup. G2 Esports, on the other hand, now have to prepare for a tough fight against the most aggressive team in the world, LPL’s JDG.
