Gamers to earn Tokens on WAX

It seems a no brainer – the marriage of gaming and crypto – but despite some pretty good attractions, it’s an area that is only recently taking off. Consider that gamers tend to be online a lot, understand the concept of in-game assets, are used to meeting strangers in multiplayer games and one would imagine gamers are already a cohort that is going to be receptive to crypto. What is often overlooked is that gamers like to game and that crypto interfaces can be difficult to navigate. And then again, gamers like to game with the emphasis on game and not earn.

This is why Play to Earn of P2E has been sluggish to take off, although as with most things crypto, when it does, it does so on steroids.

FGL is one of the leading players in the mobile game sector. Founded in 2007, they have published more than 10,000 web and mobile games, with approximately 2,500 games available now and of those, normally 50 or so are listed in the top 10 game leaderboards. FGL knows games – in fact you’ve probably played some of them.

Back in 2018, the company decided to merge their games into crypto but as co founder, Chris Hughes, admits, it was just too difficult. “Our mobile games are fast and easy to use. We looked at Ethereum but the user experience was cumbersome and it was too expensive.”

Fast forward to 2022 and FGL has solved the issues by migrating onto the WAX platform.

“There are many reasons to recommend WAX – there are no fees, it’s a carbon neutral platform and is one of the most used in crypto. It’s also got an incredibly strong community and that’s what sold us in the end,” says Hughes.

However, rather than just rehashing existing games, FGL has created new games from scratch.

“Many of our mobile games are games of skill and tend to be single user, part of the joy of gaming in crypto is to bring along communities and multiplayer games,” says Hughes.

The first game to be created is Cosmic Clash which has been developed by general manager of FGL and a games designer, Roger Bankus. He leaned back into the games he enjoyed playing and wanted to build a game that would appeal to gamers while introducing crypto through NFTs.

“It’s a “Collect & Battle” space game and we are dropping packs of spaceships as NFTs,” explains Bankus. “We are dropping 2500 packs each containing 5 spaceships – costing 500 WAX per pack. It’s easy to play and fun.”

CosmicClash involves missions and P2E elements, but it acts as a game first and foremost.

Mecha World is dropping next month and is a post dystopian world with humans no longer existing and the planet is ruled by robots. Martine Spaans, community manager & designer with FGL, is one of the people behind the game and she is concerned to create games that feel games first and foremost.

“Sometimes there is too much tree chopping or mining in these P2E games, we wanted to keep the fun element balanced with the earn element.”

But FGL is not stopping there. As Hughes explains they have also released a cross-game token on the Alcor Exchange (FGL) that can be used in game.

The first game will drop today (January 24, 2022) when Cosmic Clash NFT packs will be available at 10am PT/ 1pm ET with its 2500 Milky Way Galaxy Packs. Mecha World will follow next month.

As FGL is primarily a publisher of games, we recommend anyone reading this blog to contact them with their ideas for games – who knows, you could end up creating the next Axie Infinities or Alien Worlds. Or just get playing and earn the FGL token.
