LATEST – Wrath of the Druids Trailer

The team behind Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has just shared a new trailer for the upcoming DLC and it looks amazing! The Wrath of the Druids DLC is due to launch on May 13th, so Ubisoft has left it a little late to reveal anything but it has been worth the wait.

We get a brand new look at the Children of Danu and hints at what cursed plague they are bringing to Ireland. We also get a fresh look at Ireland itself and a few of the key locations Eivor is going to find herself/himself exploring through this content expansion.

It’s time to bury the past and help Ireland come together to build the future as a united nation. We don’t know whether this will be under the rule of Flann Sinna, but it looks like we might be seeing his rise to High King throughout the several splintering narratives.

Ubisoft is finally starting to share more information about what we’re going to see in the Wrath of the Druids when it’s out on Thursday. We still don’t know too much about what’s coming, but we do have a new look at two new characters.

Firstly, the Children of Danu are a group of cursed cultists that will undoubtedly clash with Eivor during her time on the Irish Coast.

In addition to this, we also get a new look at the High King of Ireland, Flann Sinna. We know this will be someone you talk to a fair bit in the Wrath of the Druids DLC, but whether he is a friend or foe is up for debate at the moment.

Updated Release Date

The Wrath of the Druids DLC for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was originally meant to be coming on April 29th, but this was delayed until May 13th.

Why, though? Well… Here’s what we know from the original Tweet:

Yeah, okay. It doesn’t really share any information specifically. As it turns out, it just wasn’t ready yet. The Ostara Festival did help to fill the gap, but now we’re looking forwards. We are just a few days away from the next major title update and we can’t wait.

Eivor’s going to have a whole new challenge ahead of her when she visits the Irish Coast on May 13th.

Updated Roadmap

We know that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Wrath of the Druids DLC expansion is coming out on May 13th, but Ubisoft has also shared a little more about what’s coming to their title beyond that.

Title Update 1.2.2 is due Late Spring alongside the Mastery Challenge Game Mode update. Although the Wrath of the Druids is an exclusive bit of paid content, the several updates after that will be free for all players.

File Size & New Look

After a little root around, PlayStationSize has uncovered the Xbox console file size for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s first major DLC expansion and given us a fresh look at what’s in store in the Wrath of the Druids.

The DLC is looking like it will be about 12.5GB on Xbox consoles and we’re expecting it to be somewhat similar on PS4 and PS5. PC is a different breed though, so it could vary a bit more. However, updates are often smaller (if anything) on PC.

Wrath of the Druids Content

Below, we have an excerpt of what to expect:

” Journey to Ireland and unravel the mysteries of an ancient druidic cult. Fight your way through haunted forests and dazzling landscapes while gaining influence among Gaelic kings.”

From a leaked trophy list online, we also know that there will be more involved in this DLC from Celtic Mythology than first thought.

Bran the Blessed and Puck are both mentioned, so expect this to be a little wilder than you might think.

Ireland In The 870s

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is set in 873 AD, or at least that year and maybe the year after, and features everything you might see from middle England in that era.

But what about Ireland? The Wrath of the Druids DLC is taking Eivor and the Raven Clan across the water and will introduce Ireland to Valhalla’s map pool.

Throughout the period between 800 AD and 1000 AD, Irish history is characterised by Viking raids and the Norman Invasion.

Dublin, Wexford, Waterford, Cork, and Limerick were all prominent Norse settlements along the Irish coast and it’s safe to say that we’ll be seeing at least a couple of these in the next major DLC to release for Valhalla.

Much like England in Valhalla has a bit of a King problem, Ireland was divided up and ruled by semi-independent tuatha throughout this era. It’s safe to say that we should expect the narrative design implemented in Valhalla’s main game to continue in the DLC on a smaller scale.

The First Viking Raid in history was recorded in 795 AD, though. So, we doubt Eivor is going to be the first of the Norse to have arrived in Ireland by the time Wrath of the Druids kicks off.

Wrath of the Druids

The Wrath of the Druids expansion is the first major DLC to be announced for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and it’s a highly anticipated little bit of content.

Below, you can check out the synopsis for the Wrath of the Druids DLC expansion here:

Explore the haunted wilds and beautiful landscapes of Ireland as you battle a druidic cult known as the Children of Danu. Conquer ring forts, master the art of smuggling, and gain the favour of Gaelic kings in a new open-world adventure.

With a Spring 2021 release window, could this update be a hint towards what’s in store? Spring is coming to an end and there hasn’t been any word of the DLC being delayed.

SEASON PASS – Wrath of the Druids is the first of two major expansions

We can imagine the eventual release of the next Valhalla DLC expansion will be a bit bigger than 8 GB, though.

When you consider the fact that it is adding a bit of Ireland, probably similar in size to the Asgard parts of Valhalla, on top of everything else… Could it be squeezed into 8 GB?

Smuggling Mechanics

With that in mind, the upcoming release of the Wrath of the Druids DLC for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is also introducing a Smuggling mechanic.

Although we don’t have a lot of information about what this entails, there’s also nothing to say that this mechanic will be exclusive to the Valhalla Season Pass owners or people who purchase Wrath of the Druids.
