Popular K-pop star G-Dragon, dubbed as “King of K-pop,” is the newest celebrity to venture into the non-fungible token (NFT) space as he unveiled his collection on OpenSea, one of the largest NFT marketplaces, on March 21, 2023.

The artist’s first collection, Archive of PEACEMINUSONE, features 13,444 NFTs that make up his original painting, |ARCHIVE 2016’|. It represents the identity of PEACEMINUSONE, the fashion line created by the singer that incorporates intimate details of G-Dragon’s life and personal evolution.

His NFTs were made possible by his collaboration with Fandom Studio, a platform to monetize TikTok content with NFTs, and BNB Chain.

The perks of G-Dragon’s NFTs include, allowing holders to order G-Dragon’s merchandise with their puzzle piece printed on it, receive a physical certificate, and have ‌access to a puzzle game created by PEACEMINUSONE. Moreover, selected lucky holders might also get concert tickets, early access to merchandise, and a physical certificate with an autograph and doodles by G-Dragon himself.

The allowlist winners stage is already over. As of this writing, the first Public Stage is ongoing with 12.9%, or 1,731 puzzle pieces, already minted. Minting a piece costs 0.27 BNB, or ₱4827.76.

Lastly, G-Dragon hinted that he has plans to launch two more similar NFT collections following this release.

G-Dragon is not the first to dive into the NFT wave in the K-pop industry. Last year, NMIXX, a girl group from entertainment giant JYP (the home of K-pop stars Twice, Stray Kidz, and Itzy), held an exclusive comeback showcase at the launch of the NFT platform NOW.Drops.

The company behind BTS, Hybe, announced that it is investing in NFTs in 2021 as it partnered with South Korea’s top cryptocurrency exchange operator, Dunamu, to establish a joint venture to explore the NFT market.

SM Brand Marketing (SMBM), a subsidiary of SM Entertainment, the handler of K-Pop groups EXO, NCT, and Red Velvet, also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to form a strategic partnership with crypto exchange Binance

YG Entertainment, the firm behind  G-dragon’s former group BigBang as well as 2ne1, Blackpink, Winner, and Treasure, had a partnership with Binance to help the entertainment company in its venture into the NFT space.
