Dutch flag carrier, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has announced its return to the United States with more destinations than its pre-Covid U.S. route network. The announcement of more flights to the U.S. comes following the recent announcement by the U.S. Government to open its borders to vaccinated EU and United Kingdom travellers from November 2021. The Dutch Government has also assisted the airline in its venture by removing previous travel requirements for U.S. passengers entering the Netherlands.

From December 6th and for the first time since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, KLM will resume flights from its hub at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport (AMS) to Las Vegas, Nevada and Miami, Florida. KLM will operate these flights using one of its modern Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft configured with 294 seats in a three-class configuration.

According to the airline’s initial schedule, flights to Miami will operate three times a week on Tuesday’s, Friday’s and Sunday’s, each returning to Amsterdam later the same day. Las Vegas will also be served three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, with the return flights arriving back into Amsterdam-Schiphol on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays each week.

Additionally, KLM is also planning to serve four new destinations outside of North America and plans to launch flights from Amsterdam to the Port of Spain (Trinidad & Tobago), Bridgetown (Barbados), Mombasa (Kenya) and Cancun (Mexico) from the beginning of the winter 2021 travelling season.

According to a KLM spokesperson, the network expansion is “part of the airline’s plan to restore a global network of destinations and emerge from the pandemic as a stronger and more competitive airline.” KLM also noted that from the start of the pandemic it has maintained as much of its passenger and cargo network as possible to allow for essential travel and movement of medical goods.
