Ledger Hardware Wallet Support Integrated in Trust Wallet Extension

To further build on their foundation of security, cryptocurrency wallet software Trust Wallet announced recently that they have partnered with hardware wallet provider Ledger. The collaboration will integrate Ledger’s hardware support into the Trust Wallet Browser Extension

“With the addition of Ledger hardware support, we’re continuing to build on our foundation of security and functionality,” Trust Wallet affirmed. 

In a statement, they highlighted that the update will allow their users to access web3 while leveraging the seamless functionality of Trust Wallet while keeping their private keys completely offline. 

“We are thrilled to bring Ledger support to our community and to build on our foundation of security”, says Michael Lwin, Product Manager for the Trust Wallet Browser Extension. “Security has always been a top priority for Trust Wallet, and we’re beyond excited to offer everyone who loves and uses Trust Wallet more options to manage their assets,” they added.

Consequently, they emphasized that the integration between the two wallets is “perfect for exploring Web3 dApps, day-to-day transactions, and managing digital assets safely” as users can enjoy both the functions of a cold storage wallets like Ledger–which are never connected to the internet for addition security– and a hot wallet like Trust Wallet.

In addition, their new update to the browser extension also comes with a “multi-wallet” feature which will enable users to add, import, and manage all their wallets–including all Trust Wallet and Ledger wallet addresses, in one place.

“Each wallet is associated with its secret phrase, minimizing risk and keeping assets more secure. The multi-wallet feature also lets you create separate wallets for DeFi, gaming, cold storage, day-to-day transactions, and more. You have full control!” they assured. 

Further, they also added that as part of the update, their Testnets 10 is also now live. This feature will users to experiment with cryptocurrencies in a controlled environment.

How to connect a Ledger to the Trust Wallet Browser Extension

  1. Install the Trust Wallet Browser Extension. (Accessible through Chrome, Brave, Opera, or Edge.)
  2. Open the extension, then choose “Connect your Ledger wallet”. Once connected, create a password. 
  3. Connect your Ledger device to your computer.
  4. Open the appropriate blockchain application on your Ledger to ensure a smooth connection to the Trust Wallet Browser Extension.
  5. Give Trust Wallet permission to connect your Ledger;  select the device name and click the “Connect”.
    • To ensure a smooth connection, ensure that your Ledger device is properly connected to your computer and unlocked.
  6. Select the Ledger addresses; select access via Trust Wallet and click “Continue”.

Users with previously set up Trust Wallet: 

  1. Open the extension
  2. Enter your password
  3. Click the wallet selector located underneath your balance and click on the “Manage wallets”
  4. Add new wallet and choose “Connect your Ledger wallet”
