Even before the coronavirus pandemic caused many schools to shift to virtual learning, the number of exclusively virtual schools was increasing. Learn how the Common Core of Data (CCD) identifies virtual schools and how this classification has changed over time and in school year 2020–21.

Highlights of 2015–16 and 2016–17 School-Level Finance Data
NCES annually publishes comprehensive data on the finances of public elementary and secondary schools through the Common Core of Data (CCD). Education spending data are now available for 15 states at the school level through the School-Level Finance Survey (SLFS), which NCES has been conducting annually since 2014. This blog explores key findings from this survey, such as how expenditure data—like median teacher salaries—vary by school urbanicity and various poverty indicators.
