New Decentralized Video Platform ‘Shibuya’ Revealed at ETHDenver

Pplpleasr, the digital artist behind Fortune’s NFT cover has revealed a new decentralized video platform called Shibuya at ETHDenver, the Ethereum-focused conference. Pplpleaser Unveils Decentralized Video Platform On Feb 18, Pplpleaser announced a new decentralized video platform called Shibuya, which she describes as a combination of Netflix, Vimeo, and crowdfunding platform Kickstarter but with a decentralized element. Shibuya will launch on March 1 and plans to incorporate more media beyond the video in the future. The upcoming platform will enable users to directly affect the platform’s content through the use of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and cryptocurrency. “Shibuya is a decentralized Hollywood, where cultures and ideas meet in one eclectic and inspiring place,” Pplpleasr said at ETHDenver. pic.twitter.com/IBsEb0K7z0 — Shibuya (@shibuyaxyz) February 18, 2022 Other collaborators on the project include the digital artist Maciej Kuciara, who has the reputation of displaying their NFTs on renowned auction house Phillips. Launching White Rabbit Shibuya will launch its first content titled White Rabbit which Pplpleaser calls it a mix of anime, Netflix’s Black Mirror, and Web3. A short preview of the show released at the conference shows a woman waking up in a field and encountering a castle. The preview stops there, showing the woman staring down two doors where each door represents a different ending for the episode. To watch the episodes, viewers need to mint NFTs on Shibuya that can be staked to cast a vote on the episode’s direction. Voters will then be rewarded with White Rabbit tokens to represent fractionalized ownership of the web series.
