Pokémon Go is having a Pokémon Snap event

New Pokémon Snap is coming to Nintendo Switch on April 30, and a new Pokémon Go event is coming with it. Pokémon Go collectors, especially those on the hunt for hard-to-find Shiny Pokémon, should take note: This is how you’ll (hopefully) get your Shiny Smeargle.

Pokémon Go’s New Pokémon Snap Celebration kicks off April 29, and it’s all about Pokémon from the Lental Region, the setting for Nintendo’s new photography game. Granted, there are no Lental Region-specific Pokémon, so Pokémon Go players will have to be content with catching Pokémon “inspired by” that new area.

The event will see Pokémon like Lotad, Cacnea, Ducklett, Vaporeon, Meganium, and Trapinch appearing in the wild and in raids. But the real draw is Shiny Smeargle, which makes its Pokémon Go debut — and will only be available in the mobile game (for the foreseeable future, that is) from April 29 to May 2.

Shiny Smeargle will be a chance encounter. The Painter Pokémon will appear as it normally does: in snapshots taken with Pokémon Go’s in-game camera. Players will have more opportunities to see Smeargle than normal, but it will only appear in snapshots “a limited number of times” during the four-day event. There will be event-exclusive Field Research and Timed Research focused on taking snapshots in Pokémon Go to help players in their search.

Pokémon Go’s New Pokémon Snap event runs Thursday, April 29 at 10 a.m. to Sunday, May 2 at 8 p.m. local time.
