Whether you’re from a technical background or not, upskilling in the field of Data Science and Business Analytics can surely benefit your career. Read further to learn about Kanthi’s journey with Great Learning’s PGP Data Science and Business Analytics Course in her own words.

I am from a Mechanical engineering background. I was working as an Equipment Design Engineer.

The biggest professional challenge before joining the program was not having challenges at my work. It was monotonous and not value adding. That made me feel under-confident and less motivated.

When I started looking for data science courses, many of my friends suggested Great learning. I did my own research and spoke with alumni. I’ve received very positive feedback. I was always a classroom person. I used to feel that I can focus only when I’m actually present there. So I had my doubts regarding the online classes. But after attending a few online classes that changed. They were interactive, informative and fun too.

Coming from a completely different background, I used to struggle to understand the basics all week while consuming the content. But on the weekends during mentor learning sessions my mentor Rakesh used to explain things in layman terms, no matter whichever background we are coming from, we can easily grasp the content.

In terms of teaching, doubts clearing and interaction, mentored learning sessions are the best. My mentor Rakesh Lakkala is the person who made my data science journey so smooth and easy. His explanation of topics, way of clearing doubts and his encouragement to make us participate in other events is phenomenal.

I’ve recently got an internship in an AI startup. To get that internship I was given a task where I need to do Exploratory Data Analysis. It was mentioned that for Tableau there is extra weightage. That was the catch there. I love working with tableau, I did the analysis in such a way that they couldn’t reject my project.

I would also like to thank my Program Manager, Prabhjot who was always available whenever I needed her. She helped me a lot during the hard times of my COVID-19 infection. She encouraged me a lot.

My Advice –  Practice. Practice. Practice. We always feel we understood the concept, but we can truly understand a topic only when we practice it thoroughly.
