According to the recent development from the sources, SpiceJet’s licence for the transportation of ‘Dangerous Goods’ has been suspended by aviation regulator DGCA for allegedly violating the defined regulations.

According to a report from PTI, the suspension period will be of 30 days, during which SpiceJet is barred from carrying dangerous goods, which also includes lithium-ion batteries in their domestic as well as international flights.

Why the Licence Got Suspended?

When contacted about the issue, the SpiceJet spokesperson did not affirm the suspension directly. The airline addressed the issue by describing it as a ‘minor issue’ with the package being declared as ‘non-dangerous goods’ by the shipper. The shipper has been already blacklisted.

Dangerous goods are articles or substances that are capable of posing a risk to health, safety, property or the environment as described in the Directorate General of Civil Aviation’s (DGCA) rules.

Another source informed that the DGCA had suspended SpiceJet’s licence for ‘dangerous goods’ as they were alleged with violating the regulations regarding the handling of such cargo. This resulted in airlines being barred from carrying any such cargo on the carriers in their domestic or international travels.

The Director-General of Civil Aviation, Arun Kumar, wasn’t available for a statement in regards to the issue. However, in an official statement by SpiceJet’s spokesperson, it was mentioned that there was a minor issue with a package being declared as ‘non-dangerous goods’ by the shipper and the mistakes were made on the shipper’s part. SpiceJet took the required preventive measures and corrective actions as advised by the DGCA.
