Atelier Mysterious Trilogy Deluxe Pack Atelier Sophie

If you’re a fan of the long-running Atelier series, then you might be interested to know that the Atelier Mysterious Trilogy Deluxe Pack is out now on PC, PS4 and Switch.

The trilogy pack bundles together the three games from the Atelier ‘Mysterious’ trilogy; that’s Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious BookAtelier Firis: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Journey and Atelier Lydie & Suelle: The Alchemists of the Mysterious Paintings. Each game in the bundle is the DX version, containing DLC and new content.

These aren’t new games – they were released in 2015, 2016 and 2017 respectively. But if you’ve recently discovered the Atelier series for the first time – perhaps by playing the excellent Atelier Ryza 2 – the Trilogy Deluxe Pack is a great opportunity to play more games from the series. Temper your expectations though; the Atelier Mysterious Trilogy Deluxe Pack hasn’t been remastered in any way. In comparison to the Ryza games, they’re a little rough around the edges, graphically.

But that shouldn’t put you off. Each of the three games in the trilogy tells its own unique story, focusing on a different alchemist (or in the case of Lydie & Suelle, a pair of alchemists). In Atelier Sophie, you’ll help Sophie as she tries to fill the shoes of her late grandmother. She’s new to alchemy, but a magical book will help her along the way – as long as she can recover the book’s memories first, that is. You can read more about Atelier Sophie in our original review.

In Atelier Firis, you’ll take the role of Firis, a girl brought up in a cave town, where she’s not allowed to visit the outside world. You’ll accompany her as she ventures into the world for the first time. The final game in the trilogy, Atelier Lydie & Suelle, puts you in control of the titular twin sisters. A mysterious painting they stumble across just happens to be the key they need to become successful ateliers. You can read more about Atelier Lydie & Suelle in our original review.

Each of the three games focuses on exploration, combat and, most importantly, alchemy. As you explore their worlds, you’ll gather materials which can be used to craft various recipes. Progressing through the games means acquiring new materials and, eventually, learning new and more complex recipes. The worlds in each game are unique, filled with various locations to explore and a variety of monsters to battle against in engaging turn-based combat.

Of course, containing the DX versions of each game, the Atelier Mysterious Trilogy Deluxe Pack includes lots of extra content. Each game now has a photo mode, allowing you to create and capture scenes with characters and monsters. And there’s a handy ability to speed up battle, making gameplay feel even more fast-paced and fluid. Along with those, each game packs in some brand new content, as well as existing DLC. Here’s everything that’s included:

Needless to say, the DX versions of the games offer the best value for your hard-earned money, particularly if you purchase them as a trilogy. Though each game is also available to buy on its own. If you already own the Mysterious Trilogy, we’re not entirely convinced the extra DLC makes it worth jumping into again. But if you’re a first-time player, or you’re looking to revisit the trilogy on a new format, you absolutely can’t go wrong.
