U.S DOJ Establishes Network of Attorneys For Crypto Crimes

The US DOJ has assembled a team of attorneys to handle cases involving crypto-related offences. The Department of Justice (DOJ) reportedly sent in around 150 attorneys from all across the nation for this cause. Digital Asset Coordinators Network is the name chosen for the new group.

Crypto Exposure

The purpose of this network is to pair up U.S. attorney’s offices with crypto experts to help them tackle the complex issues that arise in these cases. The technological expertise that may be used to prosecute crypto crimes was the impetus for the network. Right on the heels of the introduction of a crypto regulatory framework by the Biden administration is the launch of the network. The first head of the DOJ’s national cryptocurrency enforcement unit is Eun Young Choi.

Choi stated:

“Digital-asset crimes are truly multidisciplinary. They are cross-border, complex, and challenging investigations and they require a certain level of competency.”

Choi continued by saying that one of the goals of the network is to educate other Justice Department employees about crypto. Officials from the tax, criminal, civil, national security, and environmental sections of the government are represented.

Choi claims the new network is more than simply a marketing ploy meant to supplement existing efforts to combat rising crypto crime. Criminals are increasingly drawn to virtual currencies like Bitcoin and others. This is why the Department of Justice is putting more resources into this. Moreover, Choi also claims that the agency would have a resource at each office to deal with crypto-related offences.
