Will Rogue Company become the new big esports game?

Published 2020-10-10 04:27

Rogue Company is a new free to play third person 4v4 team-based multiplayer shooter game from Hi-Rez Studios, the makers of the popular esports game Smite, Paladins and Realm Royale. This is perhaps the hottest game of the year minding the category and the game structure. According to Hi-Rez Studios, it’s the most successful game release in the company ever. The game attracted more than 2 million players on PC, Playstation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch from the launch in July to the 1 October.

How can Rogue Company challenge?

Rogue Company could in the long run be a contender to huge esports titles such as CS:GO and growing Fortnite. This especially since it shares a lot of things with both Valves and Epic Games successful games. Though there are a few things that distinguish the game from Counter Strike, that also makes it a bit more interesting. The most outstanding things compared to CS:GO and Fortnite is that the graphics of the game feels very modern and that it has a very interesting selection of characters with different skills, weapons and abilities.

The game is developed by the High-Rez Studios owned company First Watch Games and it uses the Unreal Engine platform that also PUBG and Fortnite are using. That is also why you will find the game at Epic Games if you want to download it for your PC. The game reminds a lot of Fortnite when it comes to graphics, player movement, and effects. Perhaps it’s a smart move from Hi-Rez Studios to make a spin on the highly successful battle royale game, in a CS:GO costume.

Rogue Company esports plans

Will the game boom in the esports arenas? Well, i guess we will have to see, but it definitely has the structure and the potential for it. But what not to forget is that the game is competing with Valorant from Riot Games. A game that is already growing within esports and it’s also a fairly new and very popular release.

According to Daily Esports and their interview with Evelyn Fredericksen, a Hi-Rez advanced game designer, Rogue Company already fully supports esports. She also points out between the lines that they from the very beginning had a plan of how to take the best from other popular team-based multiplayer shooter games and create the perfect esports shooter game. She mentions that the game is very balanced, since it’s somewhere between Overwatch and Ranibow 6. But it’s also obvious that Hi-Rez Studios have taken parts from CS:GO. It’s a strategy that makes sense since we all know that these games are very popular and that they make the esports matches exciting.
