As weird as it may seem, us gamers seem to get a huge amount of enjoyment from the survival horror scene, lapping up the scares in huge quantities. Very soon there will be another experience to take in too and after seeing Song of Horror make a bit of a name for itself over on PC, details and release date for an Xbox and PlayStation launch should be something that goes down extremely well.

Originally announced for an early 2020 release, before 2020 went all crazy, Song of Horror will now be releasing on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4 and PS5 come May 28th 2021. Dropping in on console as single release – as opposed to the five parter that PC players took in – if you’re in the market for some proper scares, this looks to cover every avenue.

Coming from Raiser Games and Protocol Games, Song of Horror plays the survival horror card like no other, promising to take us though a thrilling paranormal story where the threat of The Presence, a dark entity that reacts to your way of playing, looms large throughout. From there us players set out to investigate the mysterious disappearance of the famed, but now elusive, writer Sebastian P. Husher – a man who, along with his entire family, has vanished without a trace. We’ll do this by taking on any one of 13 different characters as the Lovecraftian, third person adventure begins to pay homage to classic masterpieces of the survival-horror genre.

“We’ve always been incredibly humbled by the reception Song of Horror received from PC players, and now’s the time to drag console players into the brooding mystery the game has to offer,” says studio co-founder Carlos Grupeli. “The survival-horror genre has such a long & rich history on both PlayStation and Xbox that it feels like absolutely the right home for our little ode to all that has gone before to an audience that truly appreciates real scares.”

Song of Horror is a non-combat adventure, but that in turn means that the focus is instead placed firmly on running, hiding and staying silent in the midst of all the terror. Fail to do so and you’ll trigger unnerving manifestations that are capable of bringing the game’s protagonists to the brink of insanity. With the ever-present threat of The Presence keeping players on their toes from start to finish – powered by an AI that adapts to your gameplay -, Song of Horror’s mission to keep you severely spooked is one it never lets up on.

Song of Horror features include:

  • A truly dynamic terror experience: its antagonist, the supernatural entity known only as The Presence, is controlled by an advanced AI (Artificial Intelligence) that reacts to your actions and decisions.
  • Experience unbearable fear as this otherworldly being responds to your way of playing and hunts you down in unexpected ways, offering a unique experience to every player and gameplay where tension builds up naturally instead of coming from scripted sequences.
  • Live this story through the eyes of a varied set of characters related to the story in their own way. Every character is different, and brings their unique point of view to the investigation, allowing them to approach clues and items differently.
  • Their actions and decisions will shape the world: some of them will know more or less of certain aspects of the story; some will be more effective against supernatural manifestations, but all of them can die if the Presence gets to them – and death can be permanent. If they die, you will have to pick the story up with another one, and continue the investigation so their deaths are not in vain.
  • A mysterious antique shop, a forgotten abbey, an abandoned mental hospital… Each location in Song of Horror is inspired by the classics of the genre. Explore and investigate these haunted places to gather clues and items that will help you solve challenging puzzles while enduring the agonizing tension of the game’s atmosphere.

We’ll be sure to give you the shout when it’s time to take in Song of Horror on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4 and PS5 as May 28th 2021 rolls into play. Before then though, you can either pick up the game on PC through Steam, or check out the latest trailer which gives a little insight into what promises to unfold…
