Knights of the Old Republic remake, naar verluidt afkomstig van Port Studio Aspyr

Een remake van de Bioware RPG Star Wars uit 2003: Knights of the Old Republic is naar verluidt in de maak bij havenstudio Aspyr Media. Het nieuws werd onthuld door Bloomberg-verslaggever Jason Schreier tijdens een interview met Ben Hanson van MinnMax. “This is public at this point, I’ve basically confirmed that Aspyr – which is the company that has ported a bunch of KOTOR games is working on [the remake],” Schreier said.

Eurogamer subsequently backed up that assertion, saying that it had also heard of Aspyr’s involvement: “While the developer is known for often releasing straight ports, work is currently underway to make the project more of a remake instead.” Aspyr has recently released a number of Star Wars ports, most recently the PS4- en Switch-versie van Star Wars: Republic Commando.

Er gaan al een tijdje geruchten rond over een KOTOR-remake verslagen uit januari 2020 suggesting that the game was in development and would “integrate elements from the first two games in order to bring certain things into the current Star Wars canon.”

Schreier dan tweette in februari 2020 “if it’s really happening, it’s not at EA.” In January of this year, we heard reports that de remake was in de maak, maar niet bij EA of de oorspronkelijke ontwikkelaar Bioware – en Aspyr voldoet aan die eisen.

In ander KOTOR-nieuws werd in een rapport uit mei 2019 gesuggereerd dat er een film zou komen gebaseerd op de Bioware-game zou in de maak kunnen zijn bij Disney, en mogelijk deel uitmaken van een trilogie.
