5 Retired Dota 2 Players We Wish To See in 2024

2024 is upon us, and we expect it to be an amazing year for all Dota 2 players. With that said, here are a few retired pros we wish to see back in action.

Most people agree that 2023 was not the best for Dota 2 because we did not see that many things. However, players are optimistic about the future, especially after Valve’s decision to remove the DPC.

There aren’t any big tournaments until the end of 2023, which means that fans and players are slowly preparing for 2024. Speaking of fans, there are a lot of retired Dota 2 players that people loved watching before. We would love to see some of them back in action, so let’s go over a couple of names we hope to see.

Retired Dota 2 Players We Wish To See in 2024 – Overview

When talking about retired Dota 2 players, we mean people who were a part of a big team but decided to stop down permanently. We’ve already seen that a living legend like Ame is back in action, but he is just one of the many Dota 2 stars users wish to see.

Saahil “Universe” Arora

The first name that many fans want to see back in action is a living legend in the North American Dota 2 scene. Saahil “Universe” Arora is one of the retired Dota 2 players that will go down in history as one of the best offlaners of all time. He was definitely the best in his region, so it’s no surprise he also won TI.

Speaking of The International, Universe’s victory came with Evil Geniuses at TI5. Together with SumaiL and the rest, Saahil won the most prestigious Dota 2 tournament, but this was just one of the many trophies in his career. Keep in mind he was one of the main reasons EG won because of the famous 5-million Echo Slam.

Besides plying for EG, Universe was also a part of Fnatic, Team Secret, Team Dignitas, Quincy Crew, Forward Gaming, and most recently, Ninjas in Pyjamas. The player retired in early 2020; by the looks of it, he is not returning. 

Considering Universe is 34 years old, he probably has other plans ahead of him, but there is no arguing he is among the retired Dota 2 players that we wish to see.

Jacky “EternaLEnVy” Mao 

There are a few legendary names in the Dota 2 scene that everyone is aware of, and EternalEnVy is definitely among them. In fact, it is safe to say he was among the most popular Dota 2 personalities during his prime. Unfortunately, the player decided to retire in 2022, and he hasn’t been seen since.

Jacky “EternaLEnVy” Mao is 32 years old, and during his career, he played for a variety of teams. We’ve seen him with Fnatic, Team Secret, Cloud9, beastcoast, Fighting Pandas, and Sadboys. Even though EE was usually the team’s carry, he was also a good midlaner. 

Albeit not everyone’s favorite, EE is among the retired Dota 2 players that a lot of people would want to see in action. He is really entertaining to watch 

Johan “N0tail” Sundstein

Arguably the most successful Dota 2 player of all time, Johan “N0tail” Sundstein is one of those names everyone remembers. Despite starting his career in HoN, the Danish superstar transitioned into Dota 2 and quickly became one of the living legends. 

A lot of you may not know, but n0tail started his professional Dota 2 career as a carry. However, he decided to transition into a support and this decision was for the better because his team OG won The International two times in a row.

The two TI victories immortalized OG’s squad, and especially n0tail because he was the brain behind all of it. Everyone remembers how he gathered a few players to participate in the competition after Fly left him to join EG, and the rest is history.

When discussing retired Dota 2 players we wish to see in 2024, we have to clarify that n0tail is not technically retired because is on OG’s inactive roster. That said, we haven’t seen him play in a while.

Anathan “ana” Pham

Although we can include everyone from OG’s immortal roster that won TI two times, ana stands out. Even today, Ana remains one of the most interesting Dota 2 characters because he was among the best carries in the world without having nearly as much experience as others.

What’s interesting about ana is that we saw him in action in 2022, despite the fact that he retired in 2021. He played for T1, but the team was unable to qualify for The International, which is why ana decided to retire again.

2024 will be very interesting for many reasons, so it won’t be surprising if one of the retired Dota 2 players who decides to join the action is the Australian powerhouse.

Amer “Miracle-” Al-Barkawi

Last but definitely not the least, another retired Dota 2 player we wish to see in 2024 is Miracle. Similar to n0tail, Miracle is not technically required because he is on Nigma’s inactive roster. That said, we haven’t seen him in action since December 2022, which means there is a good chance he will return in 2024.

There are not enough words to describe Miracle- and his impact on the game. Ever since he started his career in 2013, Miracle- has always been one of the best Dota 2 players in the world. Unlike many other names, he only played for a couple of teams, such as Balkan Bears, OG and Team Liquid (Later named Nigma Galaxy).

Amer has won countless trophies and tournaments over the years, including all Majors. However, no one can deny that his career highlight was the TI7 triumph when Team Liquid won the most prestigious Dota 2 event. This was a special moment in his career, but we have no doubt he can win this tournament again.
