The impact on staff of a changing servicing maintenance and repair marketplace is one of the aspects being explored at an aftermarket event next month.

The first summer conference held by the Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation (IAAF) will address issues around recruitment, training and skills as aftermarket companies and vehicle workshops adapt to changes driven by vehicle technology, policy and manufacturer protectionism.

Mark Field, IAAF chief executive, said: “All aftermarket businesses face a common challenge in recruiting and developing people – the IAAF summer conference will offer key insights and advice on how we can change the dynamic and ensure people remain the driving force behind any business.”

Former Eurostar and Sainsbury’s Bank chief executive Hamish Taylor is the event’s headline speaker, and he will share his experience of driving employee engagement and how companies can set the right ambition to drive innovative behaviour and unlock potential.

A specialist in triggering business growth through a willingness to challenge the normal way of doing things, Taylor, who has also held senior roles at Price Waterhouse and British Airways, was branded “Masterthief” by the Inspired Leaders Network based on his record of transferring ideas between sectors.

The 2024 Automotive Management Live show will take place on November 13 at Birmingham NEC.
Alongside exhibitor displays, seminar sessions will examine workshop efficiency, compliance, stock management, re-franchising, used EV sales, improving marketing return on investment and business sustainability.

The conference will also feature a panel interview with NAPA Racing UK’s championship drivers Ash Sutton and Dan Rowbottom, looking at their skills development throughout motorsport and how they continue their training journey.

The conference, on June 12 at the Belfry Hotel & Resort, Sutton Coldfield, is sponsored by Alliance Automotive Group (AAG). It is followed by an IAAF members’ networking BBQ, and a golf day the following day.
