The Alpha Motors Wolf is a fresh face in the pickup truck world.

Electric vehicle startup Alpha Motor Corp. announced that the California-based company plans to hold the world premiere of its Wolf electric truck prototype July 31 on a global web broadcast, as well as Alpha Motor’s various social media platforms.

To whet consumer appetites for next week’s reveal, the company released a new teaser video on YouTube.

The announcement comes as the Wolf successfully completes test drives in hot temperatures, on demanding terrains as well as freeways.

Of course, during the past two years the company has displayed a number of prototypes. This one is different in that it runs. To get to this point, the neophyte automaker teamed with UHI Group, a prototyping and low-volume vehicle manufacturer in Sterling Heights, Michigan, which counts another startup, Canoo, among its clients. Alpha is currently concentrating on entering mass production by generating more test vehicles for homologation.

“Alpha is pleased to confirm the successful execution of the Wolf electric truck driving prototype and test drives. This achievement highlights the momentous progress made and affirms our readiness to proceed with the production of the Wolf electric truck,” the company stated in a press release, without providing specifics.

The Wolf, and its longer compatriot the Wolf Plus, are built on the company’s Collaborative Adventure Mobility Platform, or CAMP for short.

The Alpha Wolf carries two, measures 190 inches long, 75 inches wide and 67 inches tall, with 5.8 inches of ground clearance. Its bed is 71 inches long, 62 inches wide and 17 inches deep with 43.3 cubic feet of cargo space.

The Wolf will be initially equipped with a 150-kW electric motor that generates 258 pound-feet of torque through the rear wheels. Alpha states the single motor Wolf will reach 60 mph in 6.2 seconds, has a towing capacity of 3,000 pounds and boasts a 275-mile range.

In contrast, the Wolf Plus will come with dual motors, all-wheel drive with anywhere from 250-to-275 miles of range. Towing capacity is 6,742 pounds, with a faster 0-60 mph time of 5.9 seconds.

The Alpha Wolf’s bed holds 40 cubic feet of cargo.

But the Alpha Wolf Plus is also larger, able to carry four passengers, with two full-size doors up front, and two three-quarter size doors for the rear. Overall, it measures 208 inches long, 75 inches wide, and 69 inches high. Its bed measures 65 inches long, 59 inches wide and 18 inches deep, with 40 cubic feet of storage capacity.

The battery pack is warrantied for eight years or up to 100,000 miles.

The Wolf’s prices are estimated to start at $36,000, according to the company. But its eligibility for any federal EV tax incentives remains unknown, as is its point of manufacture.

Alpha Motors has said in the past it plans for its automobiles to be produced through contract vehicle manufacturing in the U.S. and Europe, although which companies that might include remains unknown. It says that reaching production might take another three-to-five years, so that price is sure to change.

What is Alpha Motors Corp?

Look for the Alpha Wolf to debut next week this time.

The company says that it has 20,200 preorders for its compact Wolf EV pickup, which until now has been a static design prototype, like that of its siblings, the SuperSaga four-door sedan, the Saga Estate Crossover, the two-door Ace two-door coupe and its off-road variant, the Jax.

According to the corporation, American automobile designer Edward Lee, currently Alpha Motors’ executive chairman, founded Alpha Motor Corp. alongside Joshua Boyt and Jay Lijewski, who have no automotive industry experience, having previously worked as baristas. However, Lee has 18 years of industry experience, having previously worked with Lexus.

The privately owned company is based in Irvine, California, and is privately funded.

Alpha plans to follow the online business sales and service strategy pioneered by Tesla.
