Anne wrote in to give us her thoughts about CircuitPython in 2022. Thank you!
I have some areas I’d like to explore in 2022 and there may need to be some tweaks to CircuitPython to do so:
1) Handheld CircuitPython Device – the keyboard FeatherWing by arturo182 is fantastic. I think we can look to generalize I2C/STEMMAQT keyboard matrices in Qwerty format. We could have some nice handhelds rather than one-offs that are coming up if we have some higher layer library(ies).2) PS/2 Keyboard Support – again for interfacing to microcontrollers. Maybe a FeatherWing?3) USB Host Support – a limited capability, start with keyboards perhapsI’m also looking into wiring our new home with nodes for sensors, likely networked over Ethernet. WizNet has some nice Pico-based boards. Look to ensure networking, maybe a dozen remote nodes with a central Ethernet CP device running CircuitPython would be excellent.I love the retrotech interfacing!! I do work on IBM PC and XT Computers, perhaps AT. I’d love to use CircuitPython to make floppy controllers, USB to serial adapters, WiFi adapters, and much more (an HDMI display adapter ad PT was discussing would be fantastic). Beefy microcontroller or RasPi Zero devices but prefer microcontrollers to avoid Linux overhead if possible. Such an untapped field, there is so much retrotech that could use some love and CircuitPython is a fabulous tool.I look forward to all the great work on CircuitPython!
#CircuitPython2022 is our annual reflection on the state of CircuitPython. We’d love to hear from you too! See the kick-off post for all of the details. Here are the previous posts:
