Abstract – Emergency Remote Teaching (ERT) refers to a temporary, transient change of traditional education due to crises, or emergency situations and includes distance teaching, which in different circumstances would have taken place in traditional face-to-face settings, with the aim of creating a temporary distance education framework. During the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, for the first time in Greece, a distance education initiative was applied at all levels of education, thus revealing a new dynamic research field, with an already sufficient body of small-scale empirical research studies. Aim of this chapter is the analysis and synthesis of these empirical studies concerning the two phases of lockdowns in Greek schools. Sixty-eight (68) research studies (master theses between 2020 and 2022) were selected from ten (10) universities, following PRISMA guidelines. Results revealed several critical issues that could potentially lead to helpful policy and research recommendations, regarding “next day” and the need for digital transformation of the school, based on Digital Education Plan 2020–25 of the EU.KeywordsERTEmergency remote teachingK-12 educationSchool distance education
