Indian Aviation Sector Growth

The month of November has brought a big sigh of relief for the aviation sector of India as the country witnesses the daily domestic air traffic reach closer to what it was pre-covid. According to the statistics, On November 14, a total of 385,661 passengers departed from various destinations across the country. These numbers are the highest for a day ever since the flights resumed last year in May after the country went into lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Surge in Travel Statistics

During 2019, the average number of passengers traveling in the domestic territory in a day was about 400,000, and the air traffic on November 14 makes it almost 96% of what it was pre-covid. This surge in demand can be credited to increasing confidence in passengers along with the obvious festival season and upcoming wedding season.

As reported earlier, the average daily domestic air traffic in the month of October was 283,334 passengers. This past week which is November 8 – November 14, the average domestic air traffic was recorded at a remarkable 352,400 passengers. As per the reports, even the average passenger load for the individual airlines rose up about 80% – 90%.

On the other hand, the number of flights that departed from various destinations also rose significantly. November 14 observed a record level of flight departures ever since the aviation sector resumed its operations after the nationwide shutdown. A total of 2754 registered flights departed from various destinations and the weekly average for November 8 – November 14 was around 2700 flights. If compared to the last month’s average number of flights departed which was 2,318, the growth is quite visible.

It is to be noted that, the Indian aviation industry has seen a significant recovery since June of this year after getting devastated by the impacts of Covid-19. Moreover, airlines have been able to operate on 100% capacity as they used to in pre-covid times. This has given them an opportunity to capitalize on the festival season which has surged the travel demand in the country.
