Bankstown Airport precinct to receive $130 million in upgrades

Owner Aeria Management Group (AMG) will pour $50 million into a new aviation hub with as many as nine new hangars, plus $80 million into a mixed-use precinct with retail and industrial facilities. AMG plans to release the two Major Development Plans in 2024.

AMG chief executive Daniel Jarosch said the plans will “set the standard” for 21st-century airport precincts.

“Our planned $50 million central aviation precinct at Bankstown Airport, including up to nine new hangars, with priority VIP aircraft access, will meet the needs of aviators today and the blue-sky thinkers of tomorrow, including electric and hydrogen-powered aircraft and next-generation drones,” he said.

“These facilities will support Bankstown Airport’s role as the launching pad for advanced air mobility technology and the global transition to decarbonisation. Aeria and Canterbury-Bankstown are firmly in the cockpit on the national flight path towards ‘jet zero’.”

According to Jarosch, the mixed-use development will incorporate retail shops, office suites, warehouses, and a childcare centre.

“Together with our new central aviation precinct, these plans highlight our long-term investment in aviation, industry and community,” he said.

Bakstown is one of Australia’s busiest airports by aircraft movements, and Canterbury Bankstown Mayor Bilal El-Hayek said it supports more than 160 businesses and 6500 jobs.

“The potential to double the number of jobs and investment in our city is not a ‘pie in the sky’ vision – it’s a reality,” he said.

“It is no surprise that council’s commitment to providing opportunities to connect, share knowledge and ideas and form partnerships or collaborations, has led us to become one of the most innovative cities in Australia.”

The airport last year began an $18 million upgrade to amenities and landscaping.
