Battlefield 2042 Hazard Zone – leaks, gameplay, and more

Source Node: 1857057

Battlefield 2042 aims to offer the intense, large-scale battles that have made the series a hit, but with plenty of twists and innovation for this latest release. From changes to weapon attachments, to Battlefield specialists being introduced, there’s a lot of new features being pumped into the game.

However, there’s also big changes going on in terms of game modes. While the usual massive multiplayer modes like Conquest and Breakthrough are still present under the collective banner of All-Out Warfare, EA has revealed that there will be two more unique modes to play. One is still a complete mystery and is currently known simply as Redacted, while the other has a name and some loose but interesting details: Hazard Zone.

Not an awful lot is known about Hazard Zone, but via leaks and small pieces of information from the Battlefield 2042 development team, we have a rough idea about what the game mode will entail.

Here’s everything we know about the new mode Hazard Zone in Battlefield 2042.

Battlefield 2042 Hazard Zone gameplay

We’re yet to see official gameplay footage of Hazard Zone in Battlefield 2042, but we have been fed some small morsels of information around what it will entail.

During a community stream, it was revealed that Hazard Zone will not be a battle royale, but will be a “high stakes, squad-based experience.”

Squad up: Will there be Battlefield 2042 cross-play?

DICE general manager Oskar Gabrielson says that it is “more contemporary” than traditional battle royales, and Battlefield 2042’s game director Daniel Berlin says that choosing the right loadouts and strategy for your team has “incredibly high importance”. He also confirms that specialists will be in Hazard Zone.

With the emphasis on high-stakes gameplay, many are predicting Hazard Zone to be a similar experience to Escape From Tarkov, where your loot and a single life is always on the line every time you head into battle.

Battlefield 2042 Hazard Zone leaks

As well as the official info we’ve heard around Hazard Zone in Battlefield 2042, there have been a few bits of leaked information too.

Leaker Tom Henderson claims in the video below that Hazard Zone that the game mode will support up to 100 players. He also confirms that it will be similar to Escape From Tarkov, and that AI soldiers – which will play a big role in All-Out Warfare modes as well to help fill the massive lobbies – will also be integrated into this game mode. This will likely be in a similar capacity to the AI enemies you can face in Escape From Tarkov.

While EA and DICE have explicitly said that Hazard Zone won’t be a battle royale, Henderson says that should the game mode be less popular than anticipated, it has the capacity to be morphed into a more traditional battle royale-style mode.

Battlefield 2042 Hazard Zone free-to-play

According to Tom Henderson’s sources, Hazard Zone is set to be a free-to-play mode within Battlefield 2042.

This would be similar to the current model Activision deploys for Call of Duty, where the main multiplayer experience is paid for, but an extra mode (in this case, Warzone) stands alone as a free-to-play game.

That’s all we’ve heard about Hazard Zone so far, but as hype around the game continues to ramp up, expect more information to start bubbling to the surface. An EA Play Live showcase is booked in for July 22, and while the Redacted game mode appears to be the focus for the Battlefield segment, there’s a chance we’ll get a few more crumbs of information on Hazard Zone too.
