Belarus President Urges The Country to Mine Cryptocurrency
  • Belarusian president call on the state to mine cryptocurrency.
  • Also, he said his country has lots of industrial sites to generate revenue via crypto mining

Belarusian president said his country has lots of industrial sites to generate revenue via crypto mining. Looking at this, President Alexander Lukashenko has asked the government to mine cryptocurrency using the extra power infrastructure.

According to Russian news agency RBC, Lukashenko addressed the Petrikovsky mining and processing plant on Aug. 27. During that day, he urged citizens to start mining crypto rather than seeking low-paying farming positions overseas.

In addition, he also spoke about the country’s resources that could power mining. Lukashenko said,

We must understand, they are not waiting for us anywhere […] Build something based on electricity. After all, start mining cryptocurrencies or whatever it’s called. There is enough electricity in the country.

For instance, the Petrikovsky plant is the largest investment project of state-owned Belaruskali. Belaruskali is one of the world’s biggest producers of potash fertilizers.

Additionally, Lukashenko’s call for crypto mining is just one of the many efforts of the Belarusian government to start mining crypto. In April 2019, Lukashenko offered to use energy from the country’s first nuclear power plant to mine digital assets and trade them.

Recently, the Ministry of Energy of the country noted that it was examining the risks and benefits of crypto mining for a possible move into the sector.
