Developer 505 Games may have a Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night sequel in the works. The studio included some sales information on the original game in a recent financial report, along with future plans for the series. Interestingly, the report mentioned another “version” of the metroidvania, which may suggest that a follow-up is near.
The financial presentation included a slide on Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. One of the bullet points read, “Second version in development.” That doesn’t exactly guarantee a sequel in the works, but at the very least, it may indicate some sort of remake or remaster. As Gamespot pointed out, the report also mentioned a “second version” for Ghostrunner, and we already know that has a sequel coming.
In any case, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night‘s sales number may influence the decision. According to the report, the original release sold more than 1 million copies and estimated “lifetime revenues” of more than $36 million USD. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see the studio try to mimic those numbers with a Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night sequel.
Ritual of the Night(s)
Former Castlevania producer Koji Igarashi crowdfunded Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night as a spiritual successor to the Castlevania series. The game follows an orphan named Miriam who fell victim to an alchemist’s curse meant to crystalize her body. To save herself, Miriam must fight her way through demons in a dangerous castle. While Ritual of the Night has not yet obtained another installment, the game did inspire the spin-offs Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon and Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2.
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has also received a number of post-launch additions. Just earlier this year, the game received a free Classic Mode, which gave the metroidvania retro vibes and mimicked old school Castlevania style. Perhaps 505 has plans to expand Bloodstained content even further with a long-awaited Ritual of the Night sequel.
