Because of COVID-19 travel restrictions and quarantine rules, many people spent their summer holidays at destinations within the United Kingdom. British Airways extended its domestic routes and said it would continue to support business and leisure links between Northern Ireland and key UK cities to meet this increased demand.

British Airways increases  flights from Belfast

British Airways flights between Belfast International Airport (BFS) and Birmingham Airport (BHX) will operate twice a day from October 31, 2021, increasing to three times a day on Thursday and Friday. Flights between Belfast and Exeter Airport (EXT) will increase to four flights per week. Flights between Belfast and Glasgow Airport (GLA) will increase to 13 flights per week, while flights between Belfast and Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) will increase to ten flights per week.

When speaking about the increased routes Managing director of BA CityFlyer Tom Stoddart said:
“This year has shown how much customers want to stay connected with the rest of the UK. We’re responding to the customer demand we saw over the last few months by extending some of our newest UK routes from Belfast City Airport.”

Commercial Director at Belfast City Airport Katy Best added:

“British Airways has a longstanding presence at Belfast City Airport, and its introduction of regional services earlier this year has been strongly welcomed by our passengers who know and enjoy the excellent BA product.
“This latest increase in frequency is superb news for those who want to plan ahead and book winter staycations or weekend breaks in Birmingham, Exeter, Glasgow, or Leeds. The convenient flight times will also be attractive to business travelers who avail of can same-day returns.”

On the routes, the airline will deploy BA CityFlyer’s existing fleet of Embraer 190 aircraft. The Brazilian-built  Embraer 190 is a narrowbody, twin-engine jet airliner that has become a passenger favorite because it has no middle seats and can operate out of smaller airports.

Starting December 11, 2021, British Airways will fly once a week on a Saturday from Southampton Airport (SOU) to Salzburg Airport (SZG). About Salzberg

Located in the Eastern Alps near the German border on the fast-flowing Salzach River, Salzberg looks today much as it did 250 years ago when Mozart strolled its streets. Overlook by the imposing 11th-century Fortress Hohensalzburg, Salzberg is a city of graceful domes and spires. Easily manageable to explore on foot, the city’s Altstadt (old town) is full of wonderful eateries and street performers singing operatic arias. Away from all the Hapsburg style and the lure of the Sound of Music, Salzberg is also a popular winter skiing destination.

Besides having some of Europe’s most picturesque Alpine scenery, the province of Salzburgerland has 23 ski resorts within a short drive from the airport. Of all the mountain resorts, the Kitzbühel / Kirchberg ski area offers everything from beginner slopes to black diamond runs.

It is good news to see British Airways increasing its flights from Belfast and connecting to the Midlands. Also, the winter flights between London and Southampton to Salzburg will be of particular interest to winter sports enthusiasts.
