BTC Supporter Brock Pierce Could Compete In Senate Race

BTC supporter Brock Pierce could compete against rivals in the Senate Race for Vermont but he has yet to formally announce it and might not even be eligible to run so let’s read more today in our Bitcoin news.

Brock Pierce filed a statement of candidacy back in November to run for a seat in the Senate and the campaign spent over $250,000 back in November and December but he has yet to formally announce his bid. After waging an unsuccessful bid in 2020 to become a US president, the EOS co-founder and BTC supporter Brock Pierce is scaling back on his political ambitions to replace the retiring Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont.

Pierce filed a statement of candidacy with the election commission back in November and the financial, summaries show that his campaign spent over $250,000 by the end of 2021 thanks to a loan from the candidate campaign via Democrat Peter Welch who outraised the EOS co-founder and had more than $2.5 milion in cash at hand.

As the news reprots show, it is not certain Pierce who is a denizen of Puerto Rico, is even qualified to run. It quotes Vermont Law school Professor Peter Teachout who said that it is technically possible for Pierce to buy and rent a house in the states but it is really highly unlikely. Without having a history of paying taxes in Vermont and holding a state ID or proof that you have voted there, he could get thrown out in court. Pierce however claims he has deep family roots in the green Mountain State and claimed on his website that he is living there. He claims to be an independent man who can use his technology expertise to expand internet services in Vermont and create high-paying jobs.

Pierce was the co-founder of VC firm Blockchain Capital, Tether in 2014, and EOS creator Block One in 2017. he hasn’t officially announced his candidacy and could not be even invested in winning but he spent a huge part of his time to atrip to the Middle East to discuss technical issues with the regional lawmakers. He said that he is quite serious abou selected, however:

“I didn’t do it with the intention of winning. I did it as an exploratory mission to understand the mechanics of the system. This run is very different, because I can win this race.” His goal, which he says is doable, is to knock on every door and talk to 250,000 people. But he’s still holding conversations with Vermonters and will only continue with his campaign if there’s a consensus that “yes, Brock, we think you’re the best candidate for us.”
