Canadian LCC Flair Launches Huge Schedule Expansion With New Jets

Canadian ultra-low-cost carrier Flair Airlines has revealed that it plans to increase its flight schedule by a third. The move coincides with the arrival of four more Boeing 737 MAX aircraft at the carrier. The increased schedule will directly create 150 new employment positions across the airline’s operations.

It’s an exciting time across the aviation industry. The industry was practically ground to a halt at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, things are much different. Airlines are returning to the skies in their droves and significantly increasing the route networks. Even the mighty A380 is back, something that many thought would not happen.

Four new destinations and 14 new routes

Flair Airlines has revealed that it will be launching four new destinations and 14 new routes, starting in March 2022. These will be spread across Canada and its neighbor to the south. Internationally, three destinations will be added,

• Nashville (BNA) will get services from Toronto and Edmonton starting April 14th
• Denver (DEN) will get services from Toronto starting April 15th
• San Francisco (SFO) will get services from Edmonton (April 14th) and Vancouver (May 17th)

As far as the domestic expansion is concerned, only one new route will be added. Comox (YQQ) will begin to welcome Flair’s fleet from Calgary and Edmonton on March 29th, with flights operating three times a week. A further seven domestic routes will be launched between destinations already on the Flair network during April and May.

Bases opening and growing

As mentioned, the growth is possible as Flair is taking delivery of four more Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. This will allow the carrier to increase the size of existing bases alongside adding new bases. The Toronto Pearson Airport base will take two of the four aircraft. This will increase Flair’s footprint at the airline to five aircraft.

The airline will also be launching a new base in December. An Edmonton base will be opened with an existing aircraft from the airline’s existing fleet of 12 aircraft. The four new Boeing 737 MAX jets are expected in April and May next year. One of these will be sent to Edmonton to double the aircraft based there.

The fourth and final Boeing 737 MAX will become the third aircraft to be based at the airline’s Vancouver base, allowing it to up services in western Canada. Commenting on the schedule increases, Stephen Jones, President, and CEO, Flair Airlines, said,

“Traveling and reconnecting with friends will be among the top priorities for many Canadians in the coming months, and Flair is continuing our growth by adding more aircraft and routes so we can bring sustainably low fares to even more iconic destinations across North America.”
