Citi has hired a new head of digital for its treasury and trade solutions (TTS) in Capital One’s Naveed Anwar.

Naveed Anwar joins Citi on 1 November

Anwar is a six-year Capital One veteran, and currently works as the firm’s managing vice president for data platforms, strategic partnerships and integrations.

Prior to his time at Capital One, he spent more than 20 years at PayPal, eBay, AOL and Netscape, leading several products and platforms.

At his new firm, Anwar will take over global digital strategy across all channels and products at Citi TTS.

The bank’s digital channels, digital onboarding team and regional product heads will all report into Anwar. He joins officially on 1 November.

Last week, Citi’s CEO for the institutional clients group, Paco Ybarra, said that banks have gone from “almost being in the middle of every single financial transaction to playing a smaller and smaller role”.

Speaking at Sibos 2021, he added banks like Citi need to avoid trying to work against the winds of technological change.

He added fintech competition has received an “avalanche of capital” that is disrupting the banking industry from the outside and is able to attract very high valuations and a lot of resources.
