Cottageroar Cheatsheet

The Cottageroar monster is a somewhat new addition to Lords Mobile. The devs have graced us with a monster that looks like a house. Really? The pinnacle of design in mobile gaming for sure if Subway Surfers was the benchmark.

In any case, before I bash my head in for looking at its sheer ugliness, I’m going to tell you how to beat it. Since it’s a novelty, some players (not me) might have trouble adjusting to the new monster.

I have done some tests on how to best approach the monster and will share the results (am I not the best or what?). If my future tests come up with different effects, or the monster itself changes, I might come back and update the article.

Basic Information on Cottageroar

The Cottageroar is implemented just like any other monster, with two hours and 55 minutes allotted for killing it before it goes away and another takes its place.

Cottageroars have an Area-of-Effect attack that deals damage both to the primary target and the ones just next to it. Since it can hit up to three of your heroes at once, squishy heroes might die simply as collateral damage if they get in the fray. It deals magic damage with its attacks, so you’ll need to bring heroes that can take a hit (or focus on dealing as much damage as possible in the time span).

Since Cottageroars also have mostly Magical Defense stats (MDEF), I’ve used STR and AGI heroes to best effects. However, just pure ATK gear and damage-oriented heroes usually do the trick, with a healer to back them up if needed.

Hero Lineups and Advice

Since the Cottageroar is still relatively new, the strategies can still evolve over time. Regardless, I’ve had success with a few lineups.

As usual, you’re better off using the highest-level heroes you currently have than following any guide to the letter. A fully-geared INT hero will have much better stats than a new AGI one, regardless of its attacking disadvantage.

F2P (Free-to-Play) Lineup

When it comes to the freely obtained heroes, your best bet is to work with some of the AGI favorites that can deal with other monsters already. To that effect, this lineup might look familiar if you’ve already gone through some of my previous cheatsheets.

Cottageroar F2P Hero Lineup: Demon Slayer, Scarlet Bolt, Trickster, Death Archer, Black Crow

This hero lineup will deal, on average, the most damage, and their high innate lifesteal will allow them to make it through Cottageroar attacks. Furthermore, backstabs will force the Cottageroar to turn around, sparing the other four from unnecessary damage.

If you don’t have some of these maxed out, you can use a Shade and a Tracker as replacements, but the Tracker might die from some unfortunate focus-fire and a lack of self-healing options. If you swap in a healer, you’ll lose out on damage potential. I won’t recommend that, but you do you.

P2P (Pay-to-Play) Lineup

Since only a few good paid hero options have stats suited for this monster (many of them are magic damage dealers), your choices become somewhat limited. Still, there’s room for improvement over the F2P lineup. This lineup has worked well for me.

Cottageroar P2P Hero Lineup: Femme Fatale, Death Archer, Black Crow, Scarlet Bolt

As you can see, you only need to get a Femme Fatale to get a boost over the F2P lineup. She’ll also do well against other similar monsters, so it’s a relatively safe purchase decision to make if you’re mulling it over.

Cottageroar Rewards

As with any monster, the Cottageroar comes with a standard suite of loot and unique materials to use for gear. Since I know how fond of lists you are, here’s one with all the possible loot:

• Hero Chests (Common to Legendary, drop on attacks)
• Speed-Ups (from 1h to 24h depending on Cottageroar level)
• Shields (between 8h and 3d, again based on level)
• Gems (200 per monster level)
• Gold (15/50/50/200/600K)
• Cursed Slab
• Soul Candle
• Fright Fabric
• Forbidden Tome

The last four items on the list are the crafting materials used to make Cottageroar gear. The Forbidden Tome is tough to obtain but it’s worth it, as I’ll detail below.

Cottageroar Gear

Most monsters are only as good as the gear you get from the loot materials, and the Cottageroar is no different. Here’s what you can choose to craft (if you kill scores of the monsters):

• Spooky Coat: Unfortunately, the spookiest part about this armor is how bad it is. It narrowly beats out only the worst F2P options from other monster gear. If you’re missing Infantry ATK, this gives 15.4% and doesn’t require the Forbidden Tome to craft, making it a passable option for the desperate.
• Steps of Reckoning: I reckon we could do better than this. Don’t get me wrong, with bonuses entirely focused on Infantry, it gives a decent boost across the board: 22.4% ATK, 16.8% DEF, and 11.2% Max HP. It requires two Tomes, so it can be challenging to obtain, but not impossible. However, other boot options outshine it when it comes to efficiency, making it the second-worst, in my opinion.
• Ghastly Cane: This main-hand is expensive, needing seven Tomes to complete, but gives 45.5% Infantry ATK at Mythic, eeking out a win over the next best option. It’s second to only Champion Gear, which is kind of pointless to compare with in the first place. In short this is a freakin homerun!
• Eerie Lantern: Another item that needs seven Tomes, the off-hand is another piece that grants the most (non-Champion) Infantry stats, with 42% ATK, 14% DEF, and 14% Max HP. The ATK boost narrowly beats out other options, and the combination of the Cane and Lantern has become the go-to duo for Infantry-oriented gear. The Champion item doesn’t even give Max HP, so some might even prefer the Lantern outright.

Cottageroar gear has a few duds, but the main- and off-hand weapons are the best-in-class if you want Infantry boosts (and don’t have Champion gear).

Cottageroar Chest

As with all monster materials, the easier way to obtain larger amounts is to directly purchase material chests that contain more of what you want, and need, to craft higher-tier items.

Unfortunetly, you can’t get any Cottageroar chests in the Material Madness and so this is the best that you’re going to do… Prepare to loose custody of your house if you go for this pack… Just saying!

Final Thoughts

The Cottageroar might look like a house of bricks, but with the correct hero lineup, you can blow it away in a few quick attacks without a worry. Just follow my advice and get better at the game, although you probably won’t become the next me.
