DrLupo leaves Twitch, signs exclusive streaming deal with YouTube

Streaming star Benjamin ‘DrLupo’ Lupo has announced that he is upping sticks from long-time home Twitch, and will now be streaming exclusively on YouTube Gaming. DrLupo was originally signed to Twitch exclusively in 2019, but as he tells the Washington Post in an interview, an undisclosed offer from YouTube which leaves him “secure for life” was too good to turn down.

Alongside financial stability, DrLupo says that the move – which will see him place a greater emphasis on producing pre-recorded content – will allow him to spend more time with his family. “Family time is crazy important,” he says, “[as is] reducing the amount of pressure, because mental health is crazy important [too].”

Additionally, the content creator sees the move over to YouTube as an opportunity to grow even bigger. “On Twitch, I’m a pretty big fish in a lake,” he says. “When [I] move to YouTube, I’m a little fish in the ocean. There’s so much room to grow, and there’s so many opportunities to do incredible things with all sorts of content creators on YouTube.”

Following the announcement, Twitch posted its own farewell message to DrLupo on Twitter. “As a creator, a gamer, and a father, you’re many things to many people,” it reads. “Above all, DrLupo, you’re someone who works hard to put good into the world. We wish you nothing but the best in everything that comes next.”

DrLupo has been a force for good on Twitch ever since his career took off during the explosion of Fortnite’s popularity back in 2018. In 2019, he raised over two-million dollars for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital – an institution he has continually supported, and even began diverting his Twitch revenue to last year.

DrLupo now leaves behind 4.5 million Twitch followers as he joins some of the biggest streamers out there on YouTube, including Rachell ‘Valkyrae’ Hofstetter and Jack ‘CouRage’ Dunlop.
