There are times when all you want to do is kick back and blast away the worries. And a twin-stick shooter is perfect for just those moments. When that twin-sticker is both dynamic and super colourful, well, that helps too. It’s with much excitement then that Bitmaster delivers some proper blasting onto Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
Available to purchase and download on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S (although not fully X|S badged and optimised), along with a drop onto Nintendo Switch, Bitmaster is a cheap and cheerful twin stick shooter in which your main, and pretty much only, aim is to destroy anything that moves, pick up every power-ups that arrives, and improve your weaponry in the process. Rinsing and repeating from there on out continues the loop.
Priced at £4.19, Bitmaster does however mis things up slightly and that comes in the form of a game balance which is constantly changing. With 100 waves of enemies readying themselves for battle, it’s this balance shift that means Bitmaster becomes a bit more random, a little more unpredictable and a whole load tougher to gain a high score on.
Those waves will need taking down though and the powers you will find in Bitmaster are plentiful. You’ll have 8 guns at your disposal, 13 odd perks, 5 hero types yet only one solitary way to escape. And when you’ve got 20 enemy types and 5 bosses to confront, finding that escape route will not be easy.
We think there’s something about Bitmaster that makes this one to keep on the consideration list, not only as it’s relatively cheap to grab, but because the visual style that accompanies it is a lovely one. Our full review of Bitmaster on Xbox is in the works and will be able to nail the finer details when it is published. Keep an eye out for it.
