ESAPCO’s new solar energy system sits on the roof of their I-Beam manufacturing facility.

Farmtek will benefit by saving approximately $50,000.00 per year in energy costs. We will gain knowledge in the use of solar power as a starting point in reducing our carbon footprint, as well planning for our future expansions in a sustainable manner.

At a ribbon cutting ceremony, Engineering Services and Products Co. (ESAPCO) is officially unveiling the solar energy system that will power a large portion of its operation in Dyersville, Iowa. Iowa Lieutenant Governor Adam Gregg will give a speech at the event, which will be held at the company’s manufacturing facility on November 10 at 11:00am.

In partnership with Eagle Point Solar, headquartered in Dubuque, Iowa, the company’s recently completed the 450.56 kW-DC roof-mounted solar energy array. The array is comprised of 1024 solar modules and six inverters and is designed to produce 572,674 kWh of electricity during its first year. The system will offset 110% of the energy usage of the company’s I-beam manufacturing facility.

“Farmtek will benefit by saving approximately $50,000.00 per year in energy costs. We will gain knowledge in the use of solar power as a starting point in reducing our carbon footprint, as well planning for our future expansions in a sustainable manner,” said Dave Buchheit, VP of Operations for ESAPCO.

Over a 25-year span, the electricity savings of the system is estimated to reach nearly $2.5 million. During its lifetime, the system will compensate for 10,853.32 tons of CO2, equal to 1,193,865 less gallons of gasoline consumed or a carbon offset of planting 272,690 trees.

The new system is the latest effort by FarmTek to adopt renewable and sustainable energy strategies. Solar energy will help reduce the carbon footprint of the framing facility and is another step for ESAPCO in meeting its green initiatives and operational goals.

Since 1979, ESAPCO has been bringing the highest quality products to the agricultural, horticultural, building and retail trade communities through their brands FarmTek, Growers Supply, TekSupply, ClearSpan Structures and GrowSpan Greenhouse Structures. With corporate headquarters in South Windsor, Conn. and a manufacturing and distribution center in Dyersville, Iowa, the company serves over 300,000 customers worldwide.
