ESL Open #219: herO, Clem, MaxPax win

Last week’s ESL Open where neither Clem nor MaxPax won a single server cup proved to be a rare occasion indeed, as the duo promptly returned to their winning ways in Week #219.

But before that, the week kicked off with herO winning the Korean server cup, powering through a gauntlet of Code S players in Bunny, Dark, ByuN, and DRG while dropping only a single map. Lower in the bracket, Oliveira caused a minor stir by defeating both SHIN and Cure, though such performances shouldn’t be so surprising coming from the famed “normal man.”

Clem reclaimed the EU server crown after ceding it to Reynor in the previous week, this time beating the Italian Zerg 3-2 in the finals. Reynor prevented the ‘traditional’ Clem vs MaxPax ending by defeating the mysterious Dane in the semis, but he couldn’t overcome Clem in the finals.

MaxPax gave it another go in the American server cup, and this time he beat all comers to become the week’s champion. The final three rounds pitted MaxPax against a series of strong Open Cup players in Astrea, Dark, and ByuN, he prevailed in each clash by the difference of a single map.

In non-ESL competition, herO achieved an unofficial weekly double by winning KSL #46, defeating DRG, Stats, and Creator to triumph in the bi-weekly tournament.
