The new SA lineup of Evil Geniuses had their Lima Major run cut short by the old EG lineup, now known as Shopify Rebellion.

It was a battle of old vs new. Of NA vs SA. Of villains vs hometown heroes. The crowd was in full force, standing behind Evil Geniuses‘ side of the stage, sending the SA team all of their energy. But in the end, it just wasn’t enough as Shopify Rebellion overpowered EG 2:1, ending the SA hopes of a Lima title.

The first game of the series was a complete stomp from EG who were allowed to first pick Brood and played super fast.

In the second game of the series, Shopify reverted to the much-tested and proven Abed Storm Spirit. They also had a support Ancient Apparition (first pick of the tournament) to stop EG’s Oracle, Death Prophet’s healing power, and Timbersaw’s regen. Taking the match fairly easy, the NA team was able to tie up the series, taking it to a third and deciding match for elimination early into the morning hours.

With elimination on the line, the last game was tense, a roller coaster of emotions and a whirlwind of a game and ending with the curse of “when did EG last throw” being handed over to the new lineup of players.

A huge team fight 32 minutes in completely changed the tide and Shopify was able to take the momentum and lead through to victory just over 10 minutes later.

Shopify will continue to the lower bracket semifinals. Evil Geniuses end with a 5-6th place finish, $25,000, and 200 DPC points to line their pockets.

The action continues on Saturday, March 4th at 16:00 CET with the lower bracket quarterfinals:
