HomeBois began their Season 13 journey in MPL Malaysia with a loss, but when we caught up with the team, they seemed confident in themselves.

It has now been a few weeks since the Mobile Legends Professional League began its thirteenth season in Malaysia, and this weekend we head into a short break for the teams. However, looking back at the past two weeks of intense Mobile Legends: Bang Bang action, there have definitely been some interesting and noteworthy aspects – especially from the reigning champions, HomeBois. Following their initial loss, HB sat down for their post-match interview to reveal some insight into what went wrong.

With Pabz continuing to lead the team as Head Coach, we received a lot of fantastic feedback from the him when questions were asked about their loss. Pabz explained how the flexibility of a hero like Barats allowed Red Giants Esports to make a lot of space around the map, before diving into the team’s chemistry problems – stating that it is possible that the team had a communication breakdown during the series, even if their draft was strong.

Following this, Muhammad Nazhan “Chibii” Bin Mohd Norchimed in when the team was questioned on who their strongest challenger would be in Season 13, and he admitted that it would be Red Giants Esports – the team that they had just lost to. Kenneth “Nets” Barro was next, explaining that the team’s performance, and talking about going back to a different strategy where they play together.

Mohamad Zul Hisham “Xorn” Bin Mohd Noor was next on our radar, and he revealed a bit more insight into himself and the team’s dynamic.

You mentioned that you wanted to possibly retire last season. What was your motivation for wanting to stay on and what keeps you motivated to keep going?

Actually, the reason I stayed on has to do with the M5 World Championship. We had a very bad result there and so I wanted to stay on because ending on that result would not be good for me.

After M5 and Games of the Future, I’m sure the team improved on multiple occasions. But, what are some of these improvements made by the team?

It seems almost like stage fright, or maybe we were not ready mentally, but this is a problem that we have worked on fixing and will continue to work on in the future, especially since we want to give the community and our fans REAL gameplay to watch and love. The improvements are there, but today we just could not show it.

Are you confident that you will be able to regroup and keep up in the coming weeks?

We are very confident this season, and in becoming back-to-back champions too. Our current lineup is very strong and can compete against the best.

After a poor start to Season 13, with a loss to Red Giants Esports in the opening series of the Regular Season, HB has managed to pull things together in Week 2 before the break. Not only did they walk away with two series wins, but the team also saw the highest ever peak concurrent viewership for MPL MY’s Regular Season when playing Team HAQ, with 228,679 viewers – 37% higher than anything in Season 12. Not only that, but Xorn also produced an absolute spectacle with the first-ever Chip in competitive play – showing us that the team is definitely on track to go back-to-back.

HomeBois will be back in action on April 20th, when they take on King Empire, the team currently unbeaten in a series in Season 13 of MPL MY. The reigning champions will be hoping to topple the current leaders and reclaim a spot in the top of the standings as we hit the halfway point of the Regular Season. We will be watching HB closely and will continue to bring you all the news and information from MPL MY Season 13.
