Sky Mavis co-founder Jeffrey “Jihoz” Zirlin told BitPinas that most players of the web3 game Pixels are Filipinos. He also noted that other games on the Ronin blockchain are experiencing growth.

Eight months after migrating to Ronin, Pixels has reached over 1 million daily active users (DAU) and 2.8 million monthly active users (MAU).

“We estimate PH players to make up ~30% of the Pixels player base,” Zirlin exclusively told BitPinas.

A February data from SimilarWeb suggests more than 20% of traffic going to the Pixels Online website are from the Philippines. The interview with Zirlin took place early this May.

Earlier this year, Pixels achieved a milestone with 170,000 DAUs. At the time, Zirlin emphasized the surge in users since migrating to the Ronin Network, specifically citing 82,000 active Filipino players in a single day.

These statistics were supported by a post from X Gaming Growth Strategist and Axie Infinity & Pixels Analyst Daryl.ron, who disclosed that last month, Pixels reached 18 million website visitors, with the Southeast Asia region leading in traffic contribution. He also noted that momentum in the Thailand market surged by 80%.

“Thailand and the Philippines are among the active users for MMO social type games, especially if the game has guild feature,” Daryl.ron wrote.

In January, the Philippines led in player engagement with Pixels, which conducted a significant airdrop targeting players and Ronin blockchain stakers at the time.

Zirlin noted that players spent around $1.2 million in the game over the last month.

In another analysis by web3 analytics platform Games Lab Analytics, a pattern in engagement spikes on X was identified, correlating with increases in the trading volume of the PIXEL Token and subsequent price movements. According to the analysis, these spikes were traced back to live-streaming strategies, suggesting that community engagement preceded token price action.

Pixels is a free-to-play MMORPG featuring activities like farming and land ownership. It migrated to the Ronin Blockchain in September last year to utilize its lower gas fees and receive support from Sky Mavis, including access to the Mavis Hub distribution platform.

Pixels Chapter 2

Pixels will soon launch its Chapter 2 updates, introducing significant changes such as revamped resource generation, the introduction of guilds and dungeons, and a new resource tiering system.

As per its whitepaper, resource generation will now be tied to each land rather than individual players, with a global cap on daily resources. Crafting will feature personal crafting stations, allowing multi-crafting and queuing of different recipes, with upgrades available via skills or PIXEL tokens. All resources and crafting recipes will be organized into a five-tier model, with tools also progressing in tiers and having durability.

Additionally, new types of free-to-play land will be added, allowing non-landowners to progress through lower-tier resources and upgrade their own specks. NFT Lands will provide access to top resources.

Ronin Games

Zirlin also mentioned recent developments with other leading games on the Ronin blockchain, including Kaidro and Axie Infinity.

He shared that Kaidro recently had its largest free mint, attracting over 346,000 unique wallets and facilitating over 100,000 new Ronin Wallet installations. Additionally, its Spark Suits and Kaidro Journals dominate Mavis Market’s trending collections.

Last February, Kaidro was exclusively launched on the Ronin platform. It is an immersive multiplayer action RPG set in a post-apocalyptic world, with player-versus-player and player-versus-environment mechanics.

Zirlin also shared that Axie Infinity experienced rapid growth, with 60,000 unique users engaging in the daily bounty board since its launch, reaching a record 48,300 participants last week, and boasting 160,000 monthly active users. Revenue to the treasury surged to $276,000 in the last month, up from $189,000 the previous month.

Furthermore, Zirlin conveyed his excitement about the forthcoming release of Ragnarok: Monster World on Ronin, scheduled for the third quarter of 2024.

“We’re very excited about onboarding the Ragnarok Online IP to Ronin and expect a large percentage of their players to come from the Philippines, the beating heart of web3 and Ronin gaming!” he said.

This game is a tower defense game where players team up with Ragnarok monsters, known as Ragmons, to protect and seize territories.

“Overall, Ronin’s strategy is to have high-quality games for all user bases and regions available to those in our ecosystem,” Zirlin affirmed.

Aside from these games, the god game Apeiron, the hero shooter game The Machines Arena, and the free-to-play NFT game Wild Forest are also on the Ronin blockchain.
