In Fire Emblem Engage, you can buy or find a limited range of weapons split across numerous disciplines. They determine how hard your units can strike their adversaries. But most of them start out relatively weak. You can improve their performance a great deal with the right upgrades, however. Here’s our guide on how to upgrade weapons and equipment in Fire Emblem Engage.

How to upgrade weapons and equipment in Fire Emblem Engage

Fire Emblem Engage isn’t like a lot of RPGs, where one hero equips an accessory, armor, a helmet, greaves, and boots. Characters can carry a maximum of five weapons and items. The weapons include Swords, Lances, Axes, Bows, Magic, Knives, and Arts. They also can bring Staves, which are multi-use items that double as weapons for those proficient in their use.

To expertly upgrade your weapons and equipment in Fire Emblem Engage, spend gold, ore, and Bond Fragments at the Smithy. Once you begin Chapter 6, the Smithy opens for business along one edge of the Plaza in The Somniel. By investing wisely, you can refine a weapon to upgrade its attack power. Then you can engrave it to imbue it with an even wider range of benefits.

Start with a basic weapon, such as the common Slim Sword. You can upgrade it to a Slim Sword+5 in exchange for 150 Iron and 1,800 gold. Taking that step increases the blade’s Mt stat by 4, its Hit stat by 15, and its Crit stat by 5.

Next, spend 50 Bond Fragments to stamp the weapon with an Emblem. Doing so applies different stats depending on which available Emblem you choose. Suppose you select Academy. In that case, you’ll increase the weapon’s Hit stat by another 30, its Crit stat by another 10, its Avo stat by 10, and its Ddg stat by 30.

Choose carefully: you can only engrave one weapon at a time with a particular Emblem. If you make a mistake, however, you can assign a different Emblem. No weapon can bear more than one engraving at once.

Given how much Iron, Steel, and Silver you find littering battlefields, it’s clear you’re supposed to regularly upgrade your equipment. Even a weak weapon becomes a genuine asset after enough refinement. The more powerful the weapon is right from the start, the more resources you’ll have to spend to upgrade it.
