Humane’s AI Wearable Displays Digital Info IRL

During a very impressive TEDTalk demo, Imran Chaudhri, one of the co-founders of the company Humane, gave a jaw-dropping demonstration of an artificial intelligence (AI) device that you wear on your jacket or shirt, and the tech world is buzzing.

The device, which attaches discreetly to your shirt pocket, can project digital information onto virtually any surface. During the live demo, Chaudhri used the wearable device to project phone call information directly onto his hand.

Humane’s wearable, which was developed through the use of AI technology, mimics how people interact with the world around them. “In the future, AI technology will be both ambient and contextual,” said Chaudhri during his TEDTalk.

Founded in 2018 by Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno, the company announced in May that it had secured $100 million in investment from Microsoft, OpenAI founder Sam Altman, Volvo, and LG, bringing Humane’s total funding to $230 million.

Chaundhri and Bongiorno both work together on the company’s software engineering team. As the company’s CEO, Bongiorno is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company’s operations. Chaudhri is also the company’s chairman and president. Patrick Gates, the company’s chief technology officer, is a former Apple senior director.

“Our first device will enable people to bring AI with them everywhere. It’s an exciting time, and we’ve been focused on how to build the platform and device that can fully harness the true power and potential of this technology,” Chaudhri said in a statement with The Verge.

During the TEDTalk presentation, Chaudhri demonstrated the various features of the revolutionary wearable outside of receiving a phone call without having to open menus.

The demonstration also showed how the wearable can translate your voice effortlessly into another language in seconds.

It can also provide a recap of important notifications and meetings without interrupting you. The ability to provide recommendations based on your preferences is also a fascinating feature of the wearable. Chaudhri demonstrated how the device can even help manage his food preferences by providing responses based on his specific dietary requirements.

The goal of the wearable is to provide a completely different experience when it comes to computing by eliminating the need for a traditional screen. “This is the possibility of reimagining the human-technology relationship as we know it. This is good AI in action,” Chaudhri added, promising more details would be released in the coming months.
